I reload 223, 9mm, 10mm, 30 Carbine, and 7mm Rem Mag. I prime them all with this tool. All major primer brands work just fine. While I sit and watch tv I can prime a few hundred rounds no problems. Don't lose the tool that comes with it, it is the key to everything!

I've used the RCBS 20200, Hand Priming Tool for many years and have been very pleased at how well it works. The only fly in the ointment is the constant need to switch shell holders When I saw the RCBS 38800 Universal Hand Priming Tool, I cried "Hooray" and ordered one. It arrived today and I am sorry to say that is a "work in progress." I will list the problems below. #1 The method of changing the primer feed from a large to small primer is complicated and not very intuitive. It also requires two tools, one of which is a standard allen wrench, but the other is a proprietary rod-shaped wrench. If you lose this tool, you will have even more difficulty changing the primer rod. The primer rods themselves are small and easily lost. The change itself requires a complicated series of movements requiring numerous changes in hand position. The older hand primer needs no tools and only a single movement of the weak hand and a simples series of steps with the strong hand. #2 The reassembly of the knurled safety gate screw thru the index gate and into the screw hole on the top of the handle is very easy in the older tool, but requires holding the device up to the light to achieve proper alignment with universal tool. This task is extremely easy with the older primer tool. #3 The movement of the device itself is somewhat jerky even with generous lubrication, something which in and of itself can damage primers. #4 There are 3 small and easily lost parts on the universal tool, the two primer rods and a set screw versus none in the older tool. #5 The very item for which this tool is unique, the universal shell holder, is a bit clumsy to use. If you push the brass in just a bit to far, something that is easy to do, the primer will not enter the pocket squarely. #6 The shell holders in the older model all have a shallow channel that enables you to push a single primer onto the the top of a primer rod that is recessed a small amount, allowing you to feed a single primer without having to use the tray. This is very difficult with the universal tool. Bottom line, I'm returning the RCBS 38800 Universal Hand Priming Tool to CTD for a refund and will continue to use my RCBS 20200, Hand Priming Tool.
