My Tighe -
Canadian knife maker Brian Tighe is a true Renaissance man, with an array of professional skills including tool and die making, metallurgy, engraving and photography. In his St. Catharine, Ontario, workshop, he produces a wide array of custom folders, all with those signature touches that immediately make them stand out as Brian Tighe knives.
The blade design is unique too, with its asymmetrical spine facets, high hollow grind, and deep belly with recurve. We use 1.4116 stainless steel in a high satin finish and offer both Razor Sharp and our exclusive Combination Razor Sharp and patented Veff Serrated edges. Designed by knife maker Tom Veff, these unique scalloped and angled serrations cut through rope and cord smoothly without snagging.
The frame lock folder has an open build with heavy duty 420J2 stainless steel frames and a 6061 T6 aluminum back spacer. Frames are bead blast. The injection molded black scales have a carbon fiber texture. Torx fasteners are used throughout.
Patented OutBurst assisted opening mechanism instantly springs the blade fully. All models have bronze bearings at the adjustable blade pivot for fast action.
Dual ramped thumb studs allow the My Tighe to be quickly opened with either hand.
All models feature a removable black Teflon plated pocket and gear clip.
Serrated Blade -
A serrated blade has a cutting edge that has many small points of contact with the material being cut. By having less contact area than a smooth blade, the applied force at each point of contact is relatively greater and the points of contact are at a sharper angle to the material being cut.
Veff Serrations -
Many CRKT models feature exclusive patented serrations developed by Tom Veff for exceptionally fast, smooth cutting.
Bead Blast Finish -
can be defined as any non reflective finish applied to the metal surface by bead blasting or sand blasting the blade with any of a variety of media. The intent is to roughen the surface for anti glare. The trade off is it tends to be more susceptible to corrosion due to the increased surface area exposed. This finish is also commonly referred to as a "military finish".
420J2 Stainless Steel -
420J2 is a low carbon stainless steel and also the entry grade of cutlery class stainless steel that is available. It is quite tough and resistant to corrosion. It has low wear resistance making it a very easy to shape and sharpen blade steel.
Frame Lock -
Also known as the Integral Lock or Monolock. The Frame Lock is a locking mechanism invented by custom knife maker Chris Reeve for the Sebenzas an update to the liner lock. The Frame Lock works in a manner similar to the liner lock but uses a partial cutout of the actual knife handle, rather than a separate liner inside the handle to hold the blade in place.
Assisted opening mechanism, which instantly springs the blade fully open after you have opened the blade approximately 30 degrees.
Hollow Ground -
The ground surface of the blade is concave and used to create a fine cutting edge.
Using both hands with equal ease. Pertaining to knives, it is a knife that is not solely designed for a left or right handed person but can be used with equal ease by both hands.
