To complement their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough, black, Tuff-Ex finish. Our testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Tuff-Ex coated blade. To make the Recon 1 as easy to open and carry as possible we have equipped each knife with a thumb stud and a small, extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties please take note. What's more its small size doesn't abrade or irritate the palm under protracted use.

This knife works awesome so far. Lock holds super strong and blade is nice and sharp. The only down fall is the finish rubbed off the outer edge of the blade just form rubbing the inside of my pocket after being worn for one week! Nothing else in that pocket. The blades finish I wouldn't give a half star. Haven't these people heard of powder coating?

The recons now have a better lock and more aggressively textured grip. The recent one I received is my fourth. The new shape of the grip keeps fingers off the blade!

Have to order another Recon 1 since my first one got stolen. ONLY problem I have with it is the coating comes off the blade fairly quickly. EXCELLENT blade for the money, though, Cold Steel products are amazing.

This is my second Cold Steel Recon 1 blade and this is even better than my Spearpoint! The G-10 handle scales provide a much more slip resistant grip than the older style. The blade has already handled various cutting chores without a hitch (ONLY WHAT I EXPECT FROM ANY COLD STEEL PRODUCT). The lock up is nice and tight but a little Rem-Oil and working it in and it is plenty smooth and easily opens with a wrist flick. Since I train for CQB with all my blades I was very pleased at how much more aggressive this blade presents in a reversed grip. I also appreciate the blunt striking capabiity of the butt design. The delivery time was great and CTD continues to provide great service in that department.
