Rescue 79 MM Black FRN Serrated Folding Knife -
A smaller equivalent of the C14 93mm Rescue, it too has a flat saber ground, SpyderEdge, VG-10 blade that ends in a sheepfoot safety tip. For smoother thumb rotation we enlarged the Spyderco Trademark Round Hole, which in turn creates a prominent hump to position the thumb on while cutting. The FRN waffle textured handle is available in indigo blue, black and safety orange with an ambidextrous, tip up pocket clip.
Serrated Blade -
A serrated blade has a cutting edge that has many small points of contact with the material being cut. By having less contact area than a smooth blade, the applied force at each point of contact is relatively greater and the points of contact are at a sharper angle to the material being cut.
Sheepsfoot Blade -
A sheepsfoot blade has a straight edge and a straight dull back that curves towards the edge at the end. It gives the most control, because the dull back edge is made to be held by fingers. Sheepsfoot look like a sheep's hoof.
VG-10 Stainless Steel -
VG-10 has Carbon (C) content between 0.95-1.05, Chromium (Cr) content between 13.0-15.0, Molybdenum (Mo) content between 0.2-0.4, and contains less than 0.25 of Nickel (Ni). During forging, Mo and Cr forms hard double carbide bonds which help improve the abrasion and corrosion resistance of the steel. It has a hardness of 58-61.
Flat Saber Grind -
A knife's edge, ground completely flat without a radius that tapers from the cutting edge to a grind line down the center of the blade. Unlike a Full Flat Grind, which tapers from the cutting edge all the way to the blade's spine the Flat Saber only is flat ground just to the grind line.
Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon (FRN) -
A nylon polymer mixed with glass fiber that is then injected into a mold for making lightweight knife handles.
Tip Up and Tip Down -
Refers to which direction the folded knife if positioned by its pocket clip. When closed and clipped in a pocket, whichever direction (up or down) the blade's tip sits defines if it is termed tip up or tip down.
Spyderco's two step serration pattern of one large and two small serrations. This pattern increases the cutting edge by 24%.
Round Hole™ -
Round hole located in the knife blade used for one hand opening and closing of a knife blade.
Using both hands with equal ease. Pertaining to knives, it is a knife that is not solely designed for a left or right handed person but can be used with equal ease by both hands.
