Four Stone Tri-Angle Sharpmaker Set -
The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker (204MF) includes two sets of high alumina ceramic stones: A pair of medium grit (brown) stones for aggressive sharpening and a set of fine (white) stones for professional grade finishing. The stones are triangular for sharpening Plainedges on the flat sides and SpyderEdges (serrations) on the corners. A furrow running the length of each stone lets you sharpen pointed items like fishhooks, darts and awls. Included is a set of brass safety rods protecting the users hands while sharpening. All components snap into the self contained ABS plastic base and lid, ready to travel with you. Die cut into the base are keyed slots and holes fitted for the stones. They accurately set the stone's sharpening angle at a 30 degree (15 degree each side) or 40 degree (20 degree each side) for knives and a 12.5 degree scissor setting. Turn the base over, a channel lets you lay two stones side by side (flat side up) for use as a bench stone. The lid snaps halfway over the base creating a handhold for stability while you're sharpening. Included is a set of brass safety rods to protect the users' hands while sharpening. Ceramic stones, like glass, will break if dropped, handle carefully. Use them dry, without oil, water or lubricants. To clean: scrub stones with a plastic scouring pad and powered abrasive cleaner, let air dry. It is also autoclave safe. System comes with instruction book and DVD.

5.0 Rating Scary sharp - 11/6/2006
Reviewer: Knife nut
The Spyderco Sharpmaker was invented for me. Being left-handed and trying to watch and learn how to sharpen a knife from a right-handed person never stuck for me. I love knives and if a knife ain't sharp, then it's useless. My grandfather could sharpen a knife to a razor's edge using a round Arkansas stone and spit. He tried teaching me, but all I ever did was make a sharp knife "spoon dull".

Over the years I've bought just about every kind a sharpening system available on a life-long quest to obtain a scary sharp edge on my knives. Most worked ok, but I could never get that true sharpness I was looking for. It wasn't until a friend recommended the Spyderco Sharpmaker with the triangle shaped stones that my quest came to an end. Now, even butter knives shake in the drawer thinking they'll lose their dull purpose in life. Just last night I sat down to tune-up my pocket knife and in less than 10 minutes I had a razor sharp edge. Also, my toe-nail clippers, steak knives, chef knife, bread knife, tomato knife, fillet knife and all of the scissors in the house are razor sharp! If you're like me and demand to have a scary sharp knife in your pocket, then you need the Spyderco Sharpmaker sharpening system.

4.0 Rating Nice Set! - 1/11/2007
Reviewer: Steven
The same as one of my fellow reviewers, I had an older relative show me how to make a knife "arm hair" sharp using spit and a flat Arkansa stone.... Unfortunately, my attempts at what he could do in 10-15 strokes never came close... I mean shoot, my blades were fairly sharp, but never enough for skinning an elk for example. Now, over 25 years later, I was desperate for something to use on my several Spyderco, and one Gerber knife. As well as my Henkle (sp) kitchen set. I purchased this set after using a MUCH simpler and less useful version a friend purchased at our state fair. This Spyderco set up is great, allowing the untalented such as myself, the ability to EASILY get a razor sharp blade... Whether that be on a Spyderco serated folder, or one of my high grade kitchen knives. I just sent my Dad one for his 70th birthday, and I hope he enjoys it as much as I do.

This device is horrible. It did nothing more than dull up and ruin my Ontario M9 bayonet blade.

5.0 Rating Well worth the $$$ - 3/19/2009
Reviewer: Chris, Holiday, FL.
This thing is awesome! I was kind of leary at first, but took a look at some of the videos on the net with this thing in use. It's very easy to use and comes with a nice DVD and Instruction Manual. Packs up in it's own case. The first day I got it, I did about 12 knives with it and it does a fantastic job. One of the knives was extremely dull. After about 5 minutes working on it, the thing cuts paper like nobody's business and also shaved some hair off of my arm. It also does more than just knives! What good is a dull knife right? Get this sharpener and you won't ever have to worry about that again! Nice job Spyderco!
