An incredible seven shots available at a moment's notice. The 617/817 revolvers provide the advantage of the extra round with Taurus' exclusive 7 round cylinder. Soft rubber grips and low-profile sights make these revolvers a most desirable carry option for law enforcement professionals or for self-defense. Add in a yoke detent, and solid steel construction and there really is no competition for this hard-hitting combination of customer-requested features.

5.0 Rating Decent concealment - 8/1/2011
Reviewer: Hammy
What would you rather have in a concealed gun? 6-8 rounds of .380/9mm/.40 or 7 rounds with the power of .357 mag or .38 sp (including bird shot rounds for low penetration if you wish)? I chose the 617 and have been very happy ever since. Some might find it a little large if they prefer a super small frame but the 617 frame and cylinder width aren't bad in my opinion. Nice to have both SA and DA; the DA took a number of rounds to get used to the poundage but since there is no "safety" (besides the lock nut and transfer bar) it's kind of nice to have a strong trigger. The SA poundage is very much acceptable in my opinion, there is pretty much no travel before the hammer is released which certainly helps somewhat in offsetting the short barrel. The sights are fixed, which sucks because everyone likes adjustable sights but the low profile also helps with concealment. The front blade fills up the rear sight pretty good so there's a low amount of play and no big issues with accuracy so far. Once you know where to hold it's easy enough to get head shots within 25 yards and torso shots probably beyond 50 yards but that's as far as I've tested so far. About 150 rounds through it so far and no mishaps during operation. 4.6/5 By the way, mine has a matte finish and judging by the length of the extractor rod the gun in the pic probably isn't a 617, though it looks close.
