||Quality Back-up/Utility Blade - 7/7/2012|
|I just got this blade today, so I can't speak to its durability, only the fit and finish and the design:
The knife looks and feels good in hand, and has an adequate traction plan. The jimping along the spine of the blade is descent, and does help to lock your thumb in place, though it could be more aggressive.
The "faux" G-10 scales are removable and provide comfortable traction sporting a medium-ish level of texture.
The satin finish of the blade looks excellent, and contrasts nicely with the scales.
The primary blade was not as sharp as I would expect from an out-of-the-box Cold Steel product. The blade tip was hazardously sharp, as a Cold Steel blade should be from the factory.
The Secure-Ex sheath is exceptional in quality, however the addition of a side clip would expand its versatility. Also, the design could be improved to expose more of the handle for drawing the blade.
Aside from the blade not being uniformly sharpened (yours may be), the only complaint I have is that the blade is difficult to draw. This is due to the 3 and 1/4 finger handle being half in the sheath when retained. This however can be corrected with a small 550-cord lanyard, looped through the last handle hole. I'd recommend a king-cobra wrap which would approximately match the width of the handle.|
