| This stock is awsome. Unless you already have a carbine stock that you are in love with, this is probably the one you'll want to buy. Like all Magpul stuff, this is well engineered, tough construction, but still classy and sleek looking.
The excellence of cheek weld is NOT to be underestimated. I've tried this cheek weld with various BUIS sights, both GG&G and Yankee Hill, and the cheek rest is very comfortable and lines your eyes up right in the correct spot. I also tried it with an EOTech and it works great for that too. Also just tried it with a 3x flip to side magnifier and guess what - it works great with that, too. And this was a Sightmark magnifier mind you (yeah I know, the magnifier is not name brand, I gave in to a moment of weakness at a gunshow and thought it worth $99 to try - with this stock, it was). I think the 3x magnifier on a plain Jane stock without this cheek weld would be a pain in the rear to use, because you can't get hold alignment when aiming. Particularly at the 200-300 yd shots, this cheek weld really makes a difference. Oh and no, it's not at all too bulky, in case you were wondering.
FWIW, I actually bought this stock for the storage and because I had a Magpul MOE carbine stock that I liked very well. The storage on this is great. Not one but two battery compartments? Check. I've only put the 123 batteries in mine, but they fit snug. Go ahead and put a set of batteries in each side, and it does help a bit with rifle balancing. Not that I thought my AR had balance issues before, but with this, it was just that much nicer.
Two words to the wise: 1. It's not as easy to get on as you might think. I tried inserting the practice round they included into the slot, and didn't get enough play in the bar to get it mounted right. After fooling around with it a while, I just used a flat head screw driver to pry that little bar down next to the adjustment lever, and got it on the stock much easier that way. 2. Not a big one, but when you are using that lower locking lever underneath the stock, don't let your fingers get too close to it when clicking it up to close it, or you can pinch yourself. Not as bad as M1-thumb, but still not fun. Don't want to sound like an idiot with these two comments, but thought it worth sharing.
In short: a good, sturdy stock with great storage and an outstanding cheek weld. Well worth the money. |
