I purchased this dedicated upper after using a drop in conversion for my AR with a 1:8 barrel, which is too much twist for a 36-40 grain .22 LR round traveling at ~1200 fps. The good: the barrel is a 1:16 twist and perfect for .22 LR. The quad rail is of decent quality and could be used on any other AR build. The detachable forward grip is also salvageable to be used on any AR as well. The bad: I have seen better bolt carrier groups. With automotive sand paper (400 through 1000 grit), I cleaned up many of the rough edges that would have otherwise caused some FTEs and stove pipes. The design is okay, but CMMG has a better product than this. The ugly: the upper receiver housing is high impact plastic. After removing the barrel to polish up the feed ramp and breech (it needed it), it took pretty much nothing to strip the plastic threads, after which the receiver housing was a total loss. The font sight post is secured with a set screw, as is the flash hider (it is not threaded). The rear sight is pretty cheesy and noting I would trust my life to, but I guess it's okay for paper targets. If you have a few bucks to spare, buy a new one, or fabricate one out of paper mache and it will be slightly better. What you can do if you already bought this: I replaced the receiver housing with an aluminum one. The notch and pin that align the barrel to the receiver housing were a close match but not close enough. The pin took a small amount of sanding to seat into the MIL-STD upper receiver housing, but it worked. After some work and a few more dollars, I have a dedicated upper that works well. I have shot over 2000 rounds through the upper and I have had very few issues. The best ammunition is CCI and Federal copper tops. Stay away from bare lead rounds and the super cheap ammunition. If buying the high-roller 6 cent per round .22 LR isn't for you, buy a BB gun.
