As someone else said, the edge of the blade broke, big chunks came out of it during normal use. Clearly, this was a brittle defective batch of stainless. The nice sheath now holds a cut down Tramontino.

Felt like a great blade when I got it, good heft and very solid. I used it to hack up a pine round and when all was said and done there were several chunks missing from the blade, about the size of a quarter. I'll contact the warranty number and see what they say.

I really enjoyed the heft and balance of the blade, and it had the chopping power of a hatchet. But I was cutting up a small tree I'd chopped down and I snapped several chunks nearly an inch across out of the blade. This would not have happened with a Cold Steel product. Maybe that was a bad batch of stainless, but it was brittle.

I bought 2 of these to use in my gardening business as I need a durable machete to use on bamboo. I was under the impression that this was made by Meyerco in the USA. NOT! This is made in CHINA, this is NOT made by americans at the Meyerco plant. All politics aside I try to buy MADE IN U.S.A. Our country needs to take care of itself first. Get OUR Jobs going. I almost bought the Ontario matchete, but got these instead, cause they were stainless steel, as both were made in USA as the ad seemed to say. I will buy the Ontario brand ones in the future, as they are still made here (I think). Part of me wants to return these Meyerco USA CHINESE machetes as the ad does lead one to believe they are USA made. The tool is very strongly built. The blade scratches a Dexter Russel butcher knife and is scratched by my Channel Lock diagonal cutters, so the temper/hardness seems good. The hand piece is comfortable. The sheath while seemingly durable is not designed for belt carry! My opinion is that if you try to carry this tool in the supplied sheath, you are going to have a safety issue. The sheath will need to be modified for belt carry, but is OK for general protection in the truck or gear bag. Not a bad deal for the money cause of the slave labor and lax controls in China. Hope fully this was not made with former Soviet mildly radioactive stainless steel stock, as a huge amount has been sold to China rather than being properly disposed of. Although I have no way to test this. All in all my purchase is tarnished by the false impression that this is a U.S. made Myerco Blackie Collins Matchete. Otherwise a good tool and the sheath can be made right at a good shoe/leather shop etc.

I received this and was thoroughly impressed. It's a very well constructed tool. Even though I'm giving it 5 bullets ( a perfect score ) I do have some issues I'd like to point out. The blade I recieved had small nicks and blemishes around the cutting edge where the person who sharpened it on the grinding machine was a tad careless. Not that theyre that bad looking , but my girlfriend commented on them so I wasn't the only one to notice right off. Not major scrtaches or anything that can't be fixed with a sharpener. It's been brought up before but I'll go into it too: The sheath. It's well constructed and the inside is lined with a thick layer of plastic so it'll take alot of abuse but the canvas belt strap seems out of place and almost weak. If this tool has one weak spot its that strap. Also it's been pointed out before but this thing needed a retaining buckle or strap to make sure it doesn't fall out in overly rough terrain. Overall a true piece of work. A Blackie Collins design too , that should be on the description in my opinion. Well worth the price and then some . I wouldn't have hesitated paying $60 for this if I saw it in a store .

This ax/machette combo as they call it is kick ass. A much better product than I thought it would be. It is thick and tough as nails. A nice weight distributution and a good handle. You could really put this thing through some abuse. I beat the hell out mine on small trees and branches and it came out unscathed. I was a bit confused by the description. The blade is 12 inches by itself. Nice sheath too, even though it doesn't stay on worth a crap. Definetly good product for the $$!

Weighing in a few ounces more than a modern hatchet-with-a-hollow-plastic-handle, this is an excellent item. I used both this machete and the hatchet to limb a fallen tree, and this machete matched the hatchet stroke for stroke in terms of cutting power. The thick 420 stainless blade will never be good for shaving, but it holds a working edge well and can be touched up with a coarse ceramic rod. Looks like it could take a lot of abuse and prying.
