LWRCI has engineered a complete solution to the deficits found in the direct impingement M16/AR15/M4 family of rifles and carbines. The principal improvement comes from the incorporation of our patented self-regulating short-stroke gas-piston system. This system eliminates the venting of hot, carbon-laden gases into the receiver and bolt carrier group, thus eliminating the intensive cleaning regime of the legacy rifle. It also means the bolt carrier group and associated springs are not subjected to the searing heat of the tapped gasses, this being one of the major causes of small parts failure. This translates into pistols that are far more reliable than the legacy direct impingement carbines regardless of user maintenance.

Another benefit of our short-stroke gas-piston system is the improved handling characteristics of our weapons over the direct impingement legacy weapons. Recoil is lighter and muzzle rise is greatly reduced. Amazingly, this is accomplished in a carbine that is ergonomically identical, weighs almost the same, and retains 80% parts commonality with the legacy direct impingement carbine.

But our revolutionary short-stroke gas-piston system is only one of the improvements we've made in the legacy carbine. LWRCI rifles and carbines utilize cold hammer forged barrels made out of 41V45 steel alloy and treated with NiCorr surface conversion technology. Cold hammer forging takes an oversized barrel blank, and using high pressure rotary hammers, compacts the barrel blank over a mandrel. This forms perfect rifling devoid of tool marks. It also compacts the molecular structure of the metal making it denser and stronger. These barrels can take a lot more use and abuse than a standard barrel before any degradation in accuracy or loss of velocity. NiCorr surface conversion has proved more lubricious, harder wearing, more heat and corrosion resistant than the hard chrome normally used in the bore. Our barrels can handle 20,000 rounds before replacement, as compared to 6,000-10,000 rounds on a standard M4.

The bolt carriers of all LWRC guns are now coated with a proprietary nickel coating that nearly eliminates corrosion while providing greatly increased lubricity. This coating provides permanent lubrication to the moving parts. This nickel coating is similar to that being used by the US Army Research Lab and USSOCOM to extend the service life of their weapons systems.

Reviewer: Who needs an SBR?
First off be prepared for a whole lot of attention at the range when you whip this amazing machine pistol out. I have never used an LWRC rifle before but you can tell the high quality build of the pistol once you hold and shoot it. It is front heavy but it is necessary for this type of firing system. I made some upgrades on it like a BCM gun fighter charging handle and replaced the stock sights with a very nice red dot sight which has made it very accurate. The PSD is chambered in a 5.56/223 which is great because though it can come chambered in a more powerful 6.8mm the 5.56/223 ammo is far more available and cheaper (6.8mm ammo is over double the price and very uncommon at gun stores and gun shows!) This weapon begs to be converted into a SBR but I love its mobility and size (just 24 inches front to back!). Very dependable, very accurate, very very powerful, kind of expensive but well worth it and cheaper than the $2200.00 MSRP.

I recently bought this LWRC after much debate. It was between this and the PWS Pistol. This was about 300 dollars more but now that I own it, I think it was the best choice. I have it fitted with an EOTech (CTD-bought) and the Noveske flash suppressor. The pistol is a freakin' tank. No hickups at all! Shoots anything I put in it and is nice to have for CQ. Great for an SBR build. Get one before they disappear.
