|Prepare for a long review, but it's worth the read, in my opinion.
Just as the other reviewer mentioned, this thing sucks. I bought it for my 870 Express with an 18.5" barrel. I had an ATI stock on it, and had zero issues with it, so I thought I'd save some money and get another ATI product. Huge mistake. As I was installing it, I noticed it was a bit loose, until I got it really cranked down, and it felt as solid as could be. I then racked the gun a few times with no issues, filled the tube with 3" shells, ran it through a few cycles (never firing it), and it held just fine. I also put a clamp on it to secure the extension to the barrel, as extra security. I felt it would hold absolutely fine.
I finally had a chance to take it to the range today.
Here's a recap: Shot five rounds of Federal 2-3/4" 00 Buckshot. Liked the grouping, and the gun was holding together well. Fired off three fairly quickly with no issues. Fired five rounds of Federal 3" 00 Buckshot with no issues and the spread was more than the 2-3/4", and I wasn't a fan, but the gun was running great. Stayed down at the range, shot my Ruger, watched my daughter shoot her .22, and decided to fire off two more 3" 00 Buckshot rounds. First one was just fine, but the second one felt like it chambered funny (like I had limp-wristed it). Pulled the trigger, and nothing happened. Racked the slide, and the whole gun fell apart. Slide kept going forward, allowing the bolt to fall out.
Upon a quick inspection, the ATI mag tub extension I had put on it is garbage. The threads stripped out, allowing the spring to force it off, which let the slide go all the way forward, pushing the barrel off, and throwing the bolt out. Hilarious, once the initial "What in the...?" was over. Guess I'm in the market for a better mag extension.
Take my (and the other reviewer's) advice: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! Spend the extra few bucks and get a quality part, especially if this is going on a home defense weapon, such as my 870. Guess my Ruger is coming out of my truck and staying next to my bed until I can get the 870 back together RELIABLY.|
