1.0 Rating Not so much - 4/26/2012

So I bought this product knowing it wouldn't be the best, but still thinking that it would be halfway decent. Keep in mind CTD had nothing to do with the quality of this product. They were fast and efficient with shipping and the product arrived as described (5 bullets for CTD). Anyways, I installed this thing on my Remington 870, and it looked great. However, when I racked the gun a few times, THE THING FLEW OFF! I thought "maybe it's the barrel" so I put the factory 24" barrel it came with back on it, screwed the extension down, racked it a few times, and it did it AGAIN. Needless to say, I'm sending this thing back. I have my shotgun for home defense, and I'm not going to rely on this thing. At best, I could hope the extension flew off and give the guy a concussion.

1.0 Rating Look the other way! - 7/10/2012

This is a good looking extension, but the thread fit was too loose to begin with. When I think of how thick (O.D.) the tube is, "beefy" comes to mind. I paired it with the ATI clamp for my Rem 1100 TAC2, but that didn't work out. The clamp spread the barrel and tube noticeably apart. After removing the clamp, the tube made a 'clunk' and that was the threads binding/unbinding. I didn't like how the ATI clamp worked, but I didn't want to use a metal clamp because they tend to mar your finish (hence the reason why I bought the ATI clamp), so I used some black 500-degree RTV as a threadlocker and just went without. Incidentally, ATI's own instructions for the extension mentions nothing about using a clamp. Using standard trap loads, my extension tube flew off the gun after the SECOND shot and pretty much ruined my weekend with that gun. Upon inspection, the threads on my mag tube contained slivers of aluminum that belonged to the ATI extension's threads. After the initial “clunk” incident, the threads appeared undamaged, FYI. Since then, I have returned to the stock Rem extension and it fits and functions perfectly. It just doesn’t look as pretty and the sling stud blocks some of my Surefire’s light. For those who are curious, Surefire doesn’t use the ratchet detent on their forend like the original. They supplied a large, thin lock washer to keep the tube from loosening. This is why I choose to use RTV sans the clamp. I also tried fitting it to a Remington 870 Tactical with the same results, minus the shooting part. Hope this helps.

1.0 Rating Garbage - 6/10/2012

Prepare for a long review, but it's worth the read, in my opinion. Just as the other reviewer mentioned, this thing sucks. I bought it for my 870 Express with an 18.5" barrel. I had an ATI stock on it, and had zero issues with it, so I thought I'd save some money and get another ATI product. Huge mistake. As I was installing it, I noticed it was a bit loose, until I got it really cranked down, and it felt as solid as could be. I then racked the gun a few times with no issues, filled the tube with 3" shells, ran it through a few cycles (never firing it), and it held just fine. I also put a clamp on it to secure the extension to the barrel, as extra security. I felt it would hold absolutely fine. I finally had a chance to take it to the range today. Here's a recap: Shot five rounds of Federal 2-3/4" 00 Buckshot. Liked the grouping, and the gun was holding together well. Fired off three fairly quickly with no issues. Fired five rounds of Federal 3" 00 Buckshot with no issues and the spread was more than the 2-3/4", and I wasn't a fan, but the gun was running great. Stayed down at the range, shot my Ruger, watched my daughter shoot her .22, and decided to fire off two more 3" 00 Buckshot rounds. First one was just fine, but the second one felt like it chambered funny (like I had limp-wristed it). Pulled the trigger, and nothing happened. Racked the slide, and the whole gun fell apart. Slide kept going forward, allowing the bolt to fall out. Upon a quick inspection, the ATI mag tub extension I had put on it is garbage. The threads stripped out, allowing the spring to force it off, which let the slide go all the way forward, pushing the barrel off, and throwing the bolt out. Hilarious, once the initial "What in the...?" was over. Guess I'm in the market for a better mag extension. Take my (and the other reviewer's) advice: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! Spend the extra few bucks and get a quality part, especially if this is going on a home defense weapon, such as my 870. Guess my Ruger is coming out of my truck and staying next to my bed until I can get the 870 back together RELIABLY.

Do not purchase this. The threads do not tighten properly allowing the tube to fly off during a simple racking. Unfortunately, I did not attempt to install this thing until after 6 months of buying. I'm guessing its too late to ask for a refund. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
