In the past choosing to pack a more concealable short barrel .45 Auto pistol meant you were dealing with less velocity and less reliable bullet expansion. Speer has created an entire category of specialized ammunition designed specifically for back-up sized guns. Gold Dot Short Barrel was introduced in 2004 and designed from the ground up to work in 2-inch barrels. Speer redesigned select Gold Dot bullets to make the cavity larger for reliable expansion at the reduced velocities common to short barrel handguns. You also get less "kick" to keep you on target when wielding sharp snapping small frame guns. Ideal for expansion in barrels as short as three inches.

Muzzle velocity: 820 fps.
Velocity at 50 yards: 783 fps.
Muzzle energy: 343 ft/lbs.
Energy at 50 yards: 313 ft/lbs.
Uses: Personal Protection, Law Enforcement.

Ok, first off, enough bullets will stop an attacker. But as an 1911A1 owner with only 9 rounds before a reload, I put some consideration into what defensive ammo I was going to purchase. Now let it be known that there is cheaper ammo out there, but Gold Dot ammo is worth the price. The way that this ammo is designed, it keeps all of its weight retintion and dosent loose pedals as it opens up as with other ammo. The nickel plated cases keep for a smooth fucntion in almost all guns. But as with any defensive ammo, test it in your gun to make sure it works before you stake it on your life...
