You have been hiking for hours and you are "positive" you are walking in the right direction. You turn left. You turn right. You're lost. Now what? If you have the right tool you can set up for the night and wait for rescue. If you don't have the right tool you are in for a long lonely night. With Kershaw Knives and Tools you will have the best opportunity to make it out of your ordeal safely and securely. Kershaw Knives and Tools are sought after outdoorsmen, hunters, LEO, military, and everyone in between that appreciates excellent tools and blades. Next time you are heading out to the urban jungle, or your favorite isolated hiking trail take Kershaw with you. "Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it".

If you prefer your knife in basic black, this one just might be your perfect EDC. To create this matte-black look, Kershaw engineers ionize metal and deposit it on both blade and handle as a microns-thin coating. This process results in a coating known as DLC, or Diamond-Like Carbon, which is hard and scratch resistant.

With its 3" Blade, the Leek is a good-sized knife, but not too big. The slim design makes it easy to carry and its razor-sharp blade of high-performance Sandvik 14C28N means it can take care of a full range of cutting tasks. The blade is a modified drop-point, so it's a good slicing knife, while the slim tip gives it piercing capability and the ability to do detailed work. For a partially serrated blade, choose the 1660CKTST Leek in basic black. The Leek features the SpeedSafe ambidextrous assisted opening system. Whether you're left-handed or right-handed, just pull back on the blade protrusion or push outward on the thumbstud and the Leek's blade is ready to go to work.

For confident blade use, a super-secure frame lock keeps the blade locked during use and a Tip-Lock slider locks the blade closed when folded. The pocketclip can be configured for tip-up or tip-down carry and the handle is drilled to accept a lanyard.

5.0 Rating Best Knife Out There! - 3/10/2009

This knife is awesome!! The speed-safe opening system is really neat, and continues to operate at full strength, even after over a year of having the knife. I used to have the rainbow leek, and I loved that, but this knife has a better grip, the black paint on it is easier to grip, especially when your hands are wet. Overall, a very good quality knife!

4.0 Rating great knife - 3/19/2009

great knife. opens smooth and perfect. you should get the proper tool to tighten the blade. mine got loose and the blade rubbed the side of the handle when it opened and started to scratch the blade. my brother got a leek a few years ago, and it is still in perfect condition, every once in a while you should put a drop of gun oil inbetween the blade and the handle where the mechanism is, after a while without oil it doesnt open as easily. you should be able to just barely nudge the blade for it to open. also, trying to push upwards on the thumb stud make the blade open alot faster, if anyone needs their knife open in 1/4 of a second instead of 1/2.

4.0 Rating Great Knife - 10/11/2009

This is a very nice knife, it opens very fast and is extremely sharp. The only thing I don't like about it is that the tip of the blade is very thin and can snap easily, mine snapped a couple of weeks after I bought it, it is definitely not a knife for rough use. Other than that it is an awesome knife!

Reviewer: MonsterMan
I have a few of the different models that Ken Onion has put out...and I LOVE THEM ALL!!!!, I did have the spring break in the first knife I bought after 2 years, I contacted Kershaw to find out how much it would cost and they shipped me a new one FREE of charge. I will not buy another brand of knife other then an Onion!
