Subject: Altacal Audubon in association with Butte County Fish & Game Commission Present The Waterfowl Identification Field Workshop Series
Under a grant by the Butte County Fish & Game Commission, Altacal Audubon will host a series of four Field Workshops designed to assist the general public in the identification of Ducks, Geese, Swans and other birds of our Butte County wetlands. These field workshops are free, and optical equipment* and instructional materials are provided at no cost to participants.

Transportation will be by car-pooling. Each of the four workshops features a slightly different focus, with waterfowl identification being the unifying objective. The four workshops arescheduled on the following dates and times:

Field-Workshop 1: Waterfowl and their allies - shorebirds, wadersand raptors. Saturday, November 7, 2009

Field-Workshop 2: Identifying Ducks in the field and on the Wing.Saturday December 12, 2009

Field-Workshop 3: Geese: dark, light, speckled and blue. Saturday January 23, 2010

Field-Workshop 4: Swans and Cranes. Saturday February 6, 2010

All workshops begin at 6:00 am in Room 235 of Holt Hall on the Chico State Campus. Participants will return to Chico State at approximately 2pm. Participants must register inadvance by calling Scott Huber at (530) 321-5579. Weather can be cold, windy and wet, please dress accordingly - hats, scarves and gloves are recommended. Workshop leaders: Jay Bogiatto teaches Ornithology, Waterfowl Biology, Mammalogy, and Zoology at CSU, Chico. Scott Huber is the past field trip director for Altacal Audubon.

* Binoculars provided by Butte County Fish & Game Commission are available for loan on an‘as-available’ basis. Participants are encouraged to bring their binoculars to ensure availability.
