Subject: Remington 597 22lr inaccurate
I have a Remington 597 22lr and it will shoot within a 2 inch group at fifty yards and i don't know why this is. I have tried everythin i could think of to solve this problem. I have changed scopes, rings, bases and ammo to solve this problem but nothing works. I am questioning myself do i buy a different barrel or do i just go buy a different gun? If any one has any suggestions they will be greatly appriecated.

Triggers are usually notorious for being heavy.  First thing I would try is Volquartsen hammer for the 597.

It will cut your trigger pull in half. Ammo can make a big difference too. I shoot a lot of the Aguila Target. It's very accurate, but leads the barrel quickly. I'll run a bore snake after 50-75 rounds. Jacketed ammo will go for a few hundred before I notice some degradation of accuracy.

They made several versions of the 597, including a stainless steel target version with a bull barrel. Which version do you have?

That may be the best that your 597 will shoot. I agree that a better trigger might help but I would have to ask myself the question, "Is it worth putting the money into at a chance that it MIGHT help?" Ultimately the only way to get super tight groups from a semi-auto rimfire rifle is to re-barrel it, work or replace the trigger and often times replace or glass bed the stock. By the time that you do all of that, you could have bought a VERY accurate bolt action rifle. I had a factory Remington 541S Custom Sporter that I picked up used, in excellent condition, for $375 and it would shoot half inch groups at 50 yards with good ammo. IMHO, semi-autos are great fun for plinking or even small game hunting but, if you want to shoot one hole groups off of the bench, buy a good bolt action.
