Subject: BREAKING: Starbucks Issues Statement – Guns Not Welcome in Our Stores
From gunssavelives.net: The below memo was sent out to Starbucks in the United States recently. An Associated press report confirms its authenticity. According to the statement, Starbucks no longer welcomes guns in its stores. The coffee chain giant has been extremely neutral on the subject recently. Previously the policy was to allow open and concealed carry where allowed by law. According to the memo, customers carrying guns will not be asked to leave, but the corporation wants to make it known that weapons are no longer welcomed in its establishments.

Starbucks has recently been the recipient of several “Starbucks Appreciation Days” staged by gun owners to show their appreciation for the neutral policy employed by the coffee chain.

According to an open letter by Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz,

Recently, however, we’ve seen the “open carry” debate become increasingly uncivil and, in some cases, even threatening. Pro-gun activists have used our stores as a political stage for media events misleadingly called “Starbucks Appreciation Days” that disingenuously portray Starbucks as a champion of “open carry.” To be clear: we do not want these events in our stores. Some anti-gun activists have also played a role in ratcheting up the rhetoric and friction, including soliciting and confronting our customers and partners.

For these reasons, today we are respectfully requesting that customers no longer bring firearms into our stores or outdoor seating areas—even in states where “open carry” is permitted—unless they are authorized law enforcement personnel.

I would like to clarify two points. First, this is a request and not an outright ban. Why? Because we want to give responsible gun owners the chance to respect our request—and also because enforcing a ban would potentially require our partners to confront armed customers, and that is not a role I am comfortable asking Starbucks partners to take on. Second, we know we cannot satisfy everyone. For those who oppose “open carry,” we believe the legislative and policy-making process is the proper arena for this debate, not our stores. For those who champion “open carry,” please respect that Starbucks stores are places where everyone should feel relaxed and comfortable. The presence of a weapon in our stores is unsettling and upsetting for many of our customers.

Anti-gun groups, such as Moms Demand Action, have called for boycotts of the corporation until they take action to ban guns in their shops.

While not outright banning guns, the public statements and memo issued by Starbucks seems to point to the coffee giant taking sides of anti-gun advocates in the debate

Subject: Off-duty cop stops armed robbery at Starbucks
(www.ktnv.com) By Molly Waldron- Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A quick-thinking patrol officer is credited with foiling a holdup at a Starbucks in Henderson on Tuesday. Police say Officer Michael Wolff was off duty when he stopped at a busy Starbucks at the Horizon College Plaza at about 11 a.m. When he approached the counter, he saw a gunman at the register pulling money out.  Wolff was in plain clothes but wearing his badge and gun. He aimed his gun at the gunman, identfied himself as an officer and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon.

The gunman tried to run off but an employee had locked the door. He ran through a glass door, but Wollf caught up to him.

The suspect was arrested and later identified as 25-year-old Francisco Cosenza.

Cosenza was booked at the Henderson Detention Center and faces charges for robbery with a deadly weapon.

I don't blame Starbucks one bit. Have you seen the photos of these open-carry azzholes hanging out in the coffee shop with AR15s, AK-47s and riot shotguns? These jerks tried to turn a restaurant into a gun show for tone-deaf Bubbas playing Rambo. I know it's all "legal" but I'd have thrown their butts out of any of my restaurants too. Open carry is fine in the field, but almost never appropriate in an urban/commercial environment, especially with tacticool long arms. Thanks a lot open-carry morons...for ruining it for everybody. We don't need attention-whores turning more corporations against us.

Don't matter what Starbucks say or do in their stores, that is their call....I never have been in one of their stores, never had a need for their products. There are so many Whataburgers and Chic-fi-lays around here that I have no need for Starbucks.By the way, I don't do the open carry bit, just CC.

common people.... lets not get stupid here. Starbucks is in business to sell coffee. You have taken a positive and turned it into a negitive by trying to be stupid at their stores. I am a carrier and so is my wife so don't try and make me out as a non supporter. @import url(http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/Forums/CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Load.ashx?type=style&file=SyntaxHighlighter.css);

Its nothing more than Starbuck's covering its ass for when some liberal democrat hipster girl gets mad and throws her piping hot ass coffee on someone who is open carrying, be they LEO or not. Still stupid, I used to open carry a pistol, nothing threatening about that. Hanging out with an ar-15 or ak-47 is just retarded though, makes about as much sense as He Who Shall Not Be Named not allowing our armed forces to carry a weapon on they're own bases. But I do agree with the above stated, I couldn't care less what starbucks does, if I want coffee I'll get it at sheets where its cheap and doesn't taste like water filtered through expensive dirt. Sure its "colored flavored sugar water" but damnit that's what I want for my caffeine fix.
