Subject: The S&W .500 Magnum

The S&W .500 Magnum! Have you shot one? Tell us about it.

From S&W’s website:

“In 2003 the gunsmiths and engineers at Smith & Wesson wanted to deliver maximum power for serious handgun hunters. The ower they sought required an entirely new frame, the massive "X-Frame™," and was the basis for the new Model S&W500™, the most powerful production revolver in the world. This ushered in the era of the "big gun" and was only the beginning. For ultimate power and velocity there's nothing even close to an X-Frame model handgun.”

I did shoot one, an 8 3/8" barreled one. It kicked hard, but not really uncomfortably. It's a handful of a gun, bigger that any other revolver out there with the only exception being the Magnun Research BFR revolver in .45-70 Govt. The revolver that hurt me the most was a S&W 329PD in .44 Magnum. At a scant 25 ounces, that thing will let you know what pain is.

I have two, a 10-1/2" custom with a scope and a 4". They are a handful. I'm working up a reduced load for the 4" to make it more fun to shoot. The big ones not really bad as it is.
