Subject: UN Gun Ban Conference Drawing to a Close Today
Washington, DC -(Ammoland.com)- The United Nations’ month-long talks on the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) are drawing to a close today, Friday July 27th 2012. And though there’s still no consensus among negotiators, the latest draft document reveals a treaty that could have serious implications for your Second Amendment rights. President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton already indicated that the U.S. will sign the treaty and send it to the Senate for ratification.

The treaty itself covers trade in weapons ranging from battle tanks and battleships, to small arms and light weapons (e.g., your gun collection).

Its most dangerous aspects center on arms transfers and record keeping. Language supposedly written to cover international transfers is so vague that it opens the door for regulating domestic transfers of firearms as well, which in turn would require gun owner registration.

The language of the treaty is intentionally fuzzy (you can read it here: http://iapcar.org/?p=970). The UN global gun haters know that if they go too far at one time against American gun rights, the treaty would be rejected.

The gun grabbers know they’re running a marathon, not a sprint, and they are content in using the one-slice-at-a-time approach to undermining U.S. liberty.

The late Senator Jesse Helms – no fan of the UN – wrote back in 1959:

“Compromise, hell! … If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?”

GOA agrees, and we have worked with Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) to get Senators on the record opposing a treaty that takes even a thin slice of our liberty.

Sen. Moran’s letter, which was signed by fifty of his colleagues, warns that in requiring nations to take “appropriate measures” in furtherance of the goals of the ATT, the treaty “will be used to push the U.S. in the direction of measures that would infringe on both Second Amendment freedoms and the U.S.’s sovereignty more broadly.”

The Moran letter, and that fact that he rallied fifty other Senators go on the record against the treaty, is significant. It puts the anti-gun side well short of the 67 votes needed to ratify a treaty.

But getting Senators to sign a letter is one thing, getting them to actually vote against a treaty is another.

Gun Owners of America has prepared a petition you can sign, which will go right to your two U.S. Senators, urging them to flatly reject the anti-gun ATT.

While it’s great that we got fifty Senators to publically oppose the treaty, keep in mind that there are at least 50 Senators who are willing to side with despots and dictators over U.S. sovereignty!

GOA has laid the groundwork. Since it first came up more than ten years ago, we have led the charge to make gun owners aware of its implications.

And thanks to your activism, we can win this battle. But we can’t let up. Let your Senators know what you think of the UN treaty.

We are proud of the members who faithfully fight alongside GOA as we protect and defend the liberties that we enjoy, and as we work together to stop the global UN gun grab.

Sincerely,
Tim Macy
Vice Chairman

PS — The UN is finishing up its work on the UN gun ban treaty right now. It’s important that you sign the petition to your two U.S. Senators so they know there is tremendous opposition to a treaty that will undermine our Second Amendment rights.

I really didn't expect Obama and his administration to do a damn thing with this treaty during an election year. He's not going to give his detractors any ammunition to use against him. Like the rat bastard he is he will wait till after the election[if re-elected] to put the final stamp on this piece of statist toilet paper..Let's make 100% sure he doesn't get back in office!! We will all be better off!!

Not trying to be a smart@$$ Kull.  I just think that where gun rights are concerned (and a few other issues), people have a false sense of security with Obamney, uh, I mean Romney.  Now, I am absolutely NOT an 0bama fan, but between the two, Romney is the only one who has ever banned a gun.  He banned guns as the head Slowcialist of Massachusetts.   http://www.businessinsider.com/romney-bans-assault-weapons-2012-7  Of course, come November, I'll be holding my nose and voting for "Not 0bama" and praying that the new guy lets me keep more of my own money and my God-given rights than this guy does.  Ain't freedom peachy?

I understand exactly what you are saying Code 3.I'm not a fan of Romney what so ever.He reminds me of a used car salesmen. He will tell you want you want to hear, convincingly. That being said,it comes down to the lesser of two evils. As the election draws near,Obama's rhetoric is becoming pure communist, socialist propaganda. He's not even trying to disguise it anymore.Until we can get a real conservative leader in this country that will garner public support in a big way, you're going to have to settle on the moderate.Either way,the die has been cast and we're in for some awfully tough times ahead whoever gets elected in November. Obama will just destroy it that much faster if he gets in.Mitt will at least stall our demise and give us time to try and work out a solution.

NEVER MIND a politician's past positions. An ideological epiphany can come at any time. Don't forget -Ronald Reagan started out as a Democrat. A California Democrat in fact  -the worst kind. And yet, President Reagan is venerated as an iconic conservative. Sir Winston Churchill once quipped that, "anyone in their 20s who wasn't a liberal had no heart, and anyone in their 40s who wasn't a conservative had no brain." He knew that a sound ideology often develops over time. The annals of politics are chock full of successfully changed minds and changed hearts. The advance of age and experience effectively nuances our attitudes.

All we really have to go on is what a politician says TODAY. Every politician has a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other, and as they vie for attention, now and then, the angel wins. If Mr. Romney says he's now a strong supporter of 2nd Amendment rights, we must take him at his CURRENT word  - and if he's elected in November - hold him to it.

It's true that President OweBama has never tried to ban a gun, but not because he doesn't want to. He recognizes the political reality of split government. His efforts, instead, have focused on back-door gun control through the UN, the plan being to eventually force Congress to enact the controls required to comply with the Arms Trade Treaty they ratified. So far the scheme has unraveled, but the gun grabbers are incrementalists, believing time is eventually on their side. OweBama has worked no less hard to infringe on our rights than Lautenberg, Feinstein or Schumer.

I agree with all that Horselips, but I am tired of believing in a politician, only to be betrayed by them.  That will never happen again.  They are ALL just politicians, and even the most allegedly conservative among them should be watched like a hawk and treated with respectful suspicion during each and every second of their professional lives.  When was the last time you voted for a presidential candidate that you would have picked yourself?

If, every 4 years, we are force-fed 2 choices that we never would have made on our own, with the understanding that "it's this or nothing", is that really freedom?

Well, Code3, that's the trick, isn't it - what we believe in.  If you believe, as I do, that God is in charge, then the question of individual liberty was settled 2000 years ago.  We're free in Christ regardless of what a politician may say or do.  As far as I'm concerned, the right to self defense is settled law in God's book and that's the only one that really matters.  Temporal, corporeal politicians will do what it takes to achieve what power and control they desire - even perhaps believing they are doing the right thing, but they are only flesh and blood.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Our battles are fought in prayer and the outcome already assured.  Things  may not go the way we want, but if we are free men because God set us free, and if the fact that we have a free country at all is any measure of divine providence and heavenly grace and mercy, then we have hope and need not despair.  Be vigilant and be prepared, but to do Gods work and Gods will as we are led by his Word and his Spirit.  The rest of what goes on around us is just noise.

That said - I will vote for Romney under "stewardship". Ejecting Obama from office would be a good thing for the country in the long term, though short term collateral damages may take some time to overcome. God gave us this beautiful and free country and we ought do everything we are capable of to protect and preserve it.   Just don't confuse temporary suffering and setbacks with total despair and separation from God.  Obama may be the closest thing to an anti-Christ I've ever seen in my lifetime (I wasn't around in Hitlers day but hear he came pretty close on that score), but he has nothing on my Lord.

We do have freedom - it's up to us to make good use of it.

Well said, and I absolutely agree, but I'm not quite ready for the inevitable revelation that man cannot govern himself.  I know we're going to screw it up and God will have to step in to fix it, but there has to be someone between now and then who isn't a complete scumbag in an expensive suit.  There has to be someone who understands freedom as our Founders did.
