Congratulations! Grassroots Organization of the Year - Calguns Foundation
ST. LOUIS – September 26, 2009 – the Calguns Foundation (“CGF” ) has been named Grassroots Organization of the Year” by the CCRKBA at the annual Gun Rights Policy Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. This prestigious award was bestowed on the CGF for the “front-line” work it has been doing to protect and expand the Second Amendment rights of gun owners in California(and across the nation).
Founded in 2008, the CGF is a 501(c)(3), and was established to: 1) Support the California firearms community by promoting education for all stakeholders about California and Federal firearms laws, rights and privileges.
(2) Defend and protect the civil rights of California gun owners (3) Support the unique public discussion forum at Calguns.net.
In the last 18 months, working closely with the NRA, SAF, and others Second Amendment stakeholders, the CGF has racked up an impressive number of victories for California firearms owners and other supporters of the Second Amendment.
In addition to assisting in the defense of more than a dozen people who were falsely charged with bogus “gun crimes,” the CGF has mounted a full-scale offensive attack on several of California’s overly restrictive and unconstitutional. In fact, in 2009 alone, the CGF was instrumental in bringing two court cases that will greatly expand the rights of California Gun Owners. The first case is Pena_v_Cid", which seeks to overturn California’s overly restrictive handgun roster of “approved” handguns. The second case is Sykes_v._McGinness". Sykes v. McGinness, which challenges California’s arbitrary and capricious “good cause” requirement for concealed weapons permits.
“We are proud of what we have done so far,” says Gene Hoffman, Chairman of the CGF, “but we could not have done it without the support of thousands of California gun owners.”
"These guns owners and Second Amendment supporters have donated thousands of dollars to help us mount these expensive legal challenges, and have volunteered thousands of hours of their time to the cause,” says Hoffman. “I really like to think of us as an ‘Army of Davids.’
" With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations, and we are extremely honored that they have recognized our work,” says Hoffman.
