This is a real gem on this site, 06/13/2008 |
| Reviewer: Jesse |
| I've held the far, far more expensive ASP batons and this thing feels just fine in comparison. It's thick, sturdy, heavy, and just tapping it along your own shin is enough to tell you it's a scary little weapon.
It locks out real nicely when you flick it open - so much so that I have to tap it on concrete to close it. This is a good thing, though, since you don't want it collapsing on you at the wrong time.
Like some other people said the rubber on this thing STINKS. It really does smell like old, burnt tires or something. I'm sure that wears off with time and it's no big deal but it's kind of funny how awful the rubber on this thing smells.
Amazing product at an amazing price. You can't beat it. |
Hit the shins, 04/25/2008 |
| Reviewer: Seen it done |
| I've read a number of reviews for this product, and have owned an expandable baton in the past and fortunately have never had to use one. I have seen one used in Berlin while stationed there with the Army. A member of the Polizei had to take down an irate street vendor who was getting in his partners face. The officer doing the striking calmly deployed his baton and struck the offending individual across the shins in one quick motion. The vendor dropped like a sack of potatoes. I'd aim for the shins after seeing that display. The man was practically in tears. |
Good investment, 04/15/2008 |

| This batton is a good investment. I have been a cop for a few years and have carried this batton for most of my career. I have used it several times on duty and have been very pleased with it. I have had many officers ask me where I got it and when I tell them, along with the amount I paid for it, they are very surprised. I bought this batton mainly because I couldn't see paying $60 to $80 or more for just a name. This is a great item and hey, if you lose it, break it or anything, you're only out a little bit of money. |
Good Value, 02/21/2008 |

| Maybe it's the increased mass, but this one holds open much more reliably than the 16" model. Although this one doesn't hide as well in a pocket, I'm taking it along on dog walks anyway. In answer to other comments: (1) the smell does dissipate after a couple of weeks. It's mostly the rubber handle and the nasty oil on the shaft, which you'll probably want to wipe off anyway. (2) it's supposed to be hard to close. The point is for it to expand into the equivalent of a solid baton. Just hold it handle up about 6 inches above a hard surface (not anything that will mar or break), and drop/tap it three or four times. (3) DO NOT HIT ANYONE IN THE HEAD WITH ONE OF THESE. Head shots with a ball-tip metal baton are often fatal. Read Rex Applegate's book ("Kill or Get Killed") for the proper nonlethal striking points: break a collar bone, whack the back of the thigh, try for the biceps, or as a last resort go for an arm or leg joint. |
Brother Loved It, 12/22/2007 |

| Bought this as a gift for my brother. He loved it pulls it out any chance he gets . I think it is a great value and have ordered one for myself. If he ever really has to us it I feel sorry for the S.O.B. that my brother hits over the head with this Baton. GET IT !!!!! |
Good Value, 11/27/2007 |

| I generally agree with the preceeding reviewers. This
is a good value and it works as expected. The only cons
I found were:
1. If it is closed too forcefully the telescoping tubes will jam
on the retainer clip and you'll have to remove the end cap
to unjam it. I think this can be cured by chamfering the bottom
of the inner tube with a countersink.
2. Another issue I found is the terrible smell of the rubber handle.
I've run into the same thing on other Made in China tools - it smells
like they made the handle out of old tires, moth balls, and used motor oil.
Hopefully this will dissapate with time. |
26" baton, 10/31/2007 |

| Very good value. Nice rubber handle just like in picture. Would been better if it had 3 section extetion but is fine the way it is. Police quality and locks out tight just the way is should be takes a bit to get it folded back up. Sheath is cheap and i will get diffent one. size is large but needs to be sence it only has 2 section extention. VERY GOOD BEST BUY!!!! |

| Ok excellent product for an exceptional price. Now in reference to last post this can be a lethal weapon in the right hands. With correct training can go from a red mark or bruise on chest, back or thighs to a fractured skull with a traumatic brain injury...so its all on how you use the weapon. (Personal fave is a downward strike to the nerve cluster on top of the collar bone) |

| This is as good as the original ASP, however.. I would not want to hae to depend on any of these with my life. For me, this is used more for intimidation that anything else, when the stick is flipped it makes a very obvious sound and has the same effect as a pump shotgun. If it gets down to it though, I am going to let the person take it from me.. and then I am going to shoot them (since they now have a lethal weapon.) I have seen many situations where people have been beaten with these rounded batons and kept moving forward, they inflict little damage no matter where you strike. I have found the best strike zones are the back, the chest and the thighs.
good luck |
Great Item, 07/24/2007 |

| I really like this product. When I first bought it I wasn~{!/~}t too thrilled by the price. Because the price is too good to be true I thought. But this product proved me dead wrong. Even though it~{!/~}s cheap it is of or better than the higher priced ones on other sites. One thing I want to mention is even with this product don~{!/~}t get the false sense of security that your invincible. Use this product wisely it will help protect you but misuse this product then it will hurt you. Simple as that. |

| I use less than lethal in my line of duty and this item feels right at home. I have used this item and it has worked with no problem. Law enforcement personnel that I have spoken with say items like this is the difference between a simple hurt leg and a deadly wound. Choose wisely. |

| i bought this for work and found is solid and the sound it makes when you flip it open is awsome.....the only problem i can find is if you flip it to hard when you open it then it is to hard to close |

| This items is great, works well for personal protection, very sturdy and well made. Only downfall is its size, 9" when closed makes it hard to hide, but other then that i deffinetly recommend... |
My 2nd one., 01/07/2007 |

| This is my 2nd baton, first one i had was the same one that is on the picture, but the new one i got today is totally different, grip is smooth and it looks like that it can slip from your hand...I’m curious why CheaperThanDirt don’t have the old versions of these 26" batons...the ones that they have on the picture :-\ |

| Very heavy, very solid construction. This is not one of those cheap coiled-spring batons that many places sell & it is not outragously priced like everyone else. As stated, this is rather large and more difficult to hide but they offer ZBB-661 in 8-21" or the ZBB-060 in 6.5-16". The only thing I don't total like is the grip cherckering but on the other hand it makes for a VERY solid, non-slip hold |

| Pros:
Long
Heavy
Sturdy
Loud
Cons:
Folded length is around 9.5 inches
Overall:
I love this thing. Its long, heavy, feels solid in your hand and when you flip it out the sound it makes along with seeing it come out is probably enough to discourage someone to want to get into a fight... unless they have something up their sleeve better than you. The only thing I can find wrong with it is the same thing that makes it good: the length. Being 9.5 inches long folded up, it isn't the easiest thing to hide. |
