WOW! COOL, 06/14/2008 |

| This helmet is great for the war buff or for the person that has everything. It looks great in my room along with my U.S. M1 Thanks CTD. |
Tested, 05/28/2008 |
| Reviewer: Ryan H |
| Yeah, i saw the ratings and reviews and i saw the one mentioned where they tested it against handguns and so i shot it with a .38 .22 9mm and .45.
well, shooting it directly "to where there is a sloped angle" none of the shots went through at a range of 10 feet.
the 9mm looked like it still would have killed the person wearing it or gave them very serious head injury.
i shot it directly from about 5 feet, the 9mm went through, so did the .45 but the .38 and .22 didn't.
"for those of you who don't know what size bullets these are, a .22 is the smallest, .38 is next then 9mm and .45, they are all very small so i didn't even test this with anything bigger than that, so it doesn't take much to stop those" also the use of nickel chromium steel rather than the US non magnetic magnesium steel may have played a role in this.
I don't know if this would be great for a modern day warfare since most armies mainly use high powered assault rifles, but they were probably the best steel helmet ever made.
yeah, it does lack head coverage.
But great for the price, I hope they keep selling these for this price longer so i can buy some more.

East German Helmet on Display, 02/29/2008 |
| Reviewer: former U.S. boarder patrol |
| i was totally blown away when my DDR helmet arrived in three days. although you advertise "used" condition, mine seems to be brand new. not a drop of "commie" sweat anywhere on the sweat band and it even had the quality inspection tag attached from the manufacturer. since i spent 8 years with the armored cavalry in fulda, germany patrolling the politically sensitive and hostile cold war german boarder, i have added this fine collectable to my retirement "war room". thanks!!! |
Nice for a display/collection, 01/26/2008 |

| This helmet is priced reasonably and is great for a Military display/collection. I dont recommend using this for airsoft/paintball, unless you have an East German military impression, becuase it is not the most comfortable helmet, and would have more drawbacks that advantages.
Another reveiwer, walliss, claims that this helmet is "Great for those heading to a warzone."
THAT IS A COMPLETELY FALSE STATEMENT. This helmet provides absolutely no ballistic protection. It is 1.5-2mm thick of steel. This helmet does not stop any bullets(except for MAYBE a .22, and even then, damage could still be done to the wearer). I would be surprised if it stopped shrapnel. It also provides NO impact protection. Not to mention that it is really awkard to wear due to the odd Shape.
Another Reveiw Jacob B, states that he tested this helmet against a series of hand gun rounds. The Helmet may have stopped them, however, serious/fatal injury form blunt truama injury woud be sustained to the wearer. And the Curve to the helmet most likely deflected the rounds, reducing penetration ability.
Once again, this helmet is nice for a display/collection only. I would not advise this for any military like task, or any task requiring ballistic protection.
If I was to deploy to a combat zone, I would rather wear a baseball cap than this. |
Good helmet, nice collectable, 12/19/2007 |

| This is a great collectable, and still relatively cheap. One big note, DON'T get one, without rubber inserts, between liner and shell. Without them, the thing rings like a bell. I have one with out the inserts, and use it to show off, to the curiouse folks, then ping the shell, when they have it on, and the looks of SURPRISE, are priceless, and amuseing at times. highly recomend getting a cloth cover, as well. They always look better, than the funky net, and some way kewl patterns are out there. |
Neat Item, 12/06/2007 |

| Shipping was fast and well packed. Item was better than described (looked new and unissued). An excellent piece of cold war history. |
East German Helmet is a good choice, 11/14/2007 |
| Reviewer: walliss |
| Take note, THIS HELMET IS SIZE ADJUSTABLE! Under the leather liner there is a plastic suspension system that is fully adjustable to fit your head size. When worn with the chin strap in place this is a very stable helmet. The ballistic design allows a full range of vision and head movement. Great for paintballers or even those heading to a war zone. This helmet has proven itself in combat and is well worth the price. Soon to be a collectors item. |

| Great cold war relic. I use it on my classroom skeleton that has an East German border guard uniform. The kids love it. |
German m-44 stahelm, 07/25/2007 |

| Just as I am a relic of the cold war era, so to is this rather fascinating
brainbucket, which, in actuality, is a WWII German m-44 pattern
wehrmacht design that the NAZIs never got to put into service. A cold
war term "communazi" was drawn from this very fact. Get one for BOTH
historical content and actual protection.

VOPO helmet, 05/17/2007 |

| This was a great helmet I like the sloping design on it, it’s a little heavier than my M1 steel helmet so I am assuming it will stop more than the M1. The thing that I don’t like about it is the lack of head coverage it provides other than that I like it, and a note to the guy above me, yes it will stop a few types of hand gun bullets I have tried this with a 9mm and a .45 and the .45 didn’t go through at a distance of 5 feet, the 9mm made a slightly deeper dent than the .45, I think it is due to the fact that the 9mm flies a little faster than the .45 that only goes about around 850fps while the 9mm goes about at a speed of 1200fps so speed contributed to this, I have pointed the 9mm in at point blank range and shot it and It went through though so it isn’t entirely bullet proof, it will not stop any sort of rifle round. I have two of them and they are awesome. |

| I have examples of this type. Good, light but definately not "bulletproof". This helmet saw wide spread combat use in the yugo/ Balkan wars of the 90's. This piece will appreciate in value trust me...
