When I installed mine in the back of the closet I found the studs ,in the instructions it says to drill a pilot hole so the wood don't split,it said to drill about 4"deep with a 3/8"drill bit ........ I did and the holes were darn tight I had to soap the lag bolt and use a impact wrench to tight'in it up! I would recommend going a size up it will make life a lot easier! [23/54 drill bit] , buy it you won't be sorry!

I ordered and received this item within a couple of days, great shipping service. It took about 45 minutes to install but I have no doubt that my guns are now safe. The lock works great with no problems what so ever. I am planning on ordering another one soon.

Works

The rack was sturdy enough and with four 3/4 inch lag bolts holding it into the wall its not going anywhere. It didn't take very long to install and is pretty idiot proof. I read the comments about the lock but after installing I found the key works perfect and I can unlock it in a matter of seconds.

Works, but not for me.

Rack came in today and looks solid and well constructed. Comes with 4 very large bolt/screws (bolt size with pointy tips), instructions, and a CD of some sort. Had to return it, though, because it won't fit my application. It's difficult to tell from the pictures in CTD, but it's designed to be used so the butt of the rifle rests on the ground. I needed something that could mount high in my closet, and it almost looked like it would suspend the long guns. I read the comments about the lock, and it looks like a hitch pin lock might be a suitable replacement/upgrade, but probably voids any kind of warranty. -E-

I have to admit, after reading a couple of the reviews, I wasn't expecting much from this gun locker. However, when the package arrived, my first thought was - this is heavy... upon opening the package, I found a well designed simple solution to my "too many guns for my gun safe" problem. I watched the enclosed video, but it had nothing about installing the gun locker, so just went to the directions. The system is relatively self explanatory, and the directions could be a bit more clear in the transition from steps one to two, other than that, get the suggested tools and mount per instructions and what you will have is very sturdy, very safe way to store long guns (I have a 12 over and under, a .308 bolt rifle heavy barrel with scope, my son's .308 with scope, 2 - 20 ga autos, and a 410 o/u and 22 pump in the same slot, as well as a 45 auto and 9mm auto. I tried to defeat the locking system by trying to remove the guns, and it just can't be done. I was not ready to buy another gun safe - no room, so this has been a perfect solution to my problem. Would highly recommend. Only reason for the 4 and not the five, to swing the arms into position requires a bit of aligning, but in no way detracts from the value of this item, at least for me... thanks, brownie

Has A Lock But Does NOT Rock!

This locking gun rack was sorely disappointing out of the box. Quality was pretty minimal, and despite claims of universality, the only long gun I had that fit in it was a Ruger 10/22! An AR, AK, or HK will not fit, and my SKS with the Tapco stock won't either. Pump shotguns with the original stock might work, but as I have a Saiga and a Mossberg with a Knoxx stock, this rack is going back to CTD ASAP...

Does the job

Does the job as advertised and is a very economical solution. Other reviewer mentioned the lock. Yeah, its a tad quirky but if you practice a bit you will get the hang of it. Installation was a tad strenuous... 4inch wood screws to drive through x4. Remember: this secures the weapons in place and does not remove them from view, so when deciding where to install it make sure you select a spot out of site. "Not seen, won't be stolen or messed with." I recommend a closet or some other storage cabinet. I have 3 pistols, shotgun, AR and a rifle securely locked up. Both AR and rifle have scopes. Gave it 4/5 stars given that the installation was a bit tedious and for the quirky lock. Other than that, its a good product and would recommend it (have already) and/or buy another.

Great idea, flakey lock

When the dog started barking in the middle of the night, I tried to prepare for an inivited intruder by unlocking the thing. This was futile. Evidently whatever or whoever set off the dog decided that the element of surprise was gone and departed for an easier life. It took several days of contorted fiddling with the thing to get the lock off. My son then figured out how to open it by a very specific sequence of wiggles. This is clearly not acceptable. I've got to say that everything else about this thing is ingenious. Very clever design. I hope I can get a more reliable replacement lock, but CTD wants me to unbolt the whole thing from the wall (not a lot of fun) and send it back in the same packaging that I probably discarded. If the manufacturer wanted to improve it, they could make it compatible with standard (trusted) padlocks, but the custom mechanism they designed really appears difficult to defeat (even when you have the key). I was not looking forward to destroying the thing to get access to my firearm(s).
