| The compass really is worth buying the set, if you happen to need a compass. It's of higher quality than you would expect for the price, and the multi-tool is not to shabby either. The winner for me was the monocular, definitely a cool item to have around, and compact enough to carry without being a burden. The flashlight is comparable to something you would buy for a dollar on the impulse racks near the checkout lane of a supermarket. The case itself is nice enough, but my complaint is that it has no loops, hooks, or any method at all of attaching to anything. I don't plan on using it for the tool kit, but I'm sure most buyers will be able to come up with a suitable use for it. |

| This item seems like it's about worth the $18 it costs. The flashlight is, as you can see, a small keyfob that uses a watch battery, probably good for finding the right key or reading a label (or the compass).
The multi-tool is fairly cheap but doesn't seem so bad--the functions are a needle nose plier, plier, wire cutter, big slotted screwdriver, mini slotted screwdriver, phillips screwdriver, spreader, knife, bottle opener, can opener, cork screw, scale (inches and mm), medium screwdriver, fork, and scissors, as listed on the box. Seems to be made of stainless steel, and the pliers have a little spring to keep them open. First multi-tool I've seen that doubles as a mess kit, but I wouldn't want to rely on it for much (as you'd guess).
The monocular is a rubberized 8x21mm affair with a coated front lens. It can be focused by twisting the eyepiece. Worth having around.
What makes this kit worth having is the compass. As best I can tell, it's the Silva Lentsatic 360 Compass sold here. The likeness is too exact to be a knockoff. The only plastic parts are the sighting arm and the "glass". Finds north in 2 seconds or so, 2 degree increments.
I see this as a compass with extras, the extras being stuff to have around as, well, extras.
Manufacturer is SE or SONA, item is the MT504. |
