A great vest! I messed up on my order and got 2 only needed it for a Halloween costume, so I have one I took the plates out of, and use with my flektarn camo's when playing airsoft and another for the 'bite vest' in my zombie hunter rig. I would truck the kevlar because almost all are out of date, and were only made for flak. We tested it and will stop zombie bites ;-). Kevlar shoulder and flip up collar are cool, just wish I could get the add on crotch pad for playing airsoft.

What a buy, mine came in two days, brand spanking new issue 1996, way more comfortable than issue by far, won't stop a penetrator, but for frags etc. will work great, plus it is long enough, top to bottom, most I had were to short.

A great value for the money. I got one, then bought 3 more after seeing how nice they are. I have one doubled up for SHTF or whatever. I took the shoulder and neck inserts out of one for testing. Shot it with .45 ball ammo at 10 feet, and it did not even penetrate one layer of the 13 layers. Also tried Federal expanding metal jacket +P with the same results. AK and AR went right through doubled up with 26 layers with no problem, so forget about it for anything but pistol rounds. Your results may vary.

Awesome!

This vest is absolutely amazing, it's 99 percent new. There is one tiny hole near the bottom of the vest, not even large enough to fit a .22 in. I must have bought the last one or close to it, a couple hours later it was out of stock, I'm glad I decided to buy this, and if this comes back in stock, I'm buying 2 more. One for my friend and one to double up the protection with the one I just purchased. This was my first purchase from CTD, they have a new loyal customer, THANKS!

id say this is at least in 90% condition. its used, but just barely. there were 2 small rips in the front fabric, that look to be professionally repaired. both the carrier and panels are dated 1996. there is a musty smell from storage, but so what? the camo isn't even faded in the least. the pic shown is quite faded....mine is dark and clear. it fit very well, and wasn't really that heavy. i could imagine wearing this for some time, it was surprisingly comfortable. i bought this just for the Kevlar panels, to put into the MOLLE-732 plate carrier. if you want to do the same, id suggest buying 2 of these, as the REAR panels for this vest fit better into the 732 and other molle carriers. the front i had to fold up to fit, as its much bigger. the collar and shoulder panels i folded and fit into the side pockets of the molle-732. no its not perfect, but for the price, and further customization, this vest is a great start for a SHTF or zombie defense rig.

I picked up one of these for three reasons. First the price, you cant beat the price, even if it is only minimal ballistic protection. Second I am a huge fan of Flecktarn camo, it is perfect for the Woodlands of Central Florida and pretty inexpensive. And third, the zippered compartments allow for the insersition of additional protection. I put in a expired IIIA Vest in the front, and back panels. Now I have a super tough package I can slap on if, God forbid, I get an unwanted night-time visitor. Grab these while you can!

I got these at the $49 price, and they are a huge bargain. I bought 3. 1 was practically new, 2 had a little wear, all were excellent. they are much softer/more flexible than the US model that I wore overseas, and they are nicer. At this price, they are well worth it.

I bought 2 so I could double up the Kevlar. After 5 minutes I had one vest with 28 layers of Kevlar 129. It may not be the interceptor vest + SAPIs I'm used to it should work fine. 26-30 layers is in standard NIJ lll-a armor.

Vest shipped out quickly, and is in better shape than I thought it would be..only very slightly faded, no wear and tear marks either inside or out except for the metal buckles and the snaps for the shoulders having the paint worn off. It did of course have a healthy dose of that "dirty surplus stank" but a trip thru the wash on the gentle cycle (minus aramid panels, of course) took care of the stank and grime and the camo stands out like (nearly) new...I don't give 2 squirts about stopping paintbals/airsoft... I got some Kevlar panels from an old vest off of an auction site to supplement the protective capabilities front and back, also adding plates between these layers for hi-velocity rounds...That should do nicely...Braid some para cord thru the buckles on the front/back and you can attach a couple of small MOLLE pouches there...Add an chest Emblem featuring skulls, snakes, daggers, you fill in the blank and...Poof! All of a sudden Im a darn Space Marine.... Buy this vest, seriously.

Mine arrived in what I would consider to be Grade III, unlike the description, with a hole or two, 20 years of dirt and complete with cookie crumbs in the center pocket. After disassembling and washing the cover, it definitely is one of the cooler things I've bought off of here. I'm ordering a second one, maybe it will be in better condition and I can double up the kevlar.

I received my vest about a week ago. The vest arrived with two small stitch patches on the front and slightly faded overall. The vest is in good condition. The date on the inside of the vest is 1995 however the dates on the inner panels are 1988. The size of the vest is G.L I’m guessing this means large. I’m 6'3" 220 with a 44" chest and the vest fits ok but is about 1- 2" short so I had to order a XL from a different site for more $$ than C.T.D. I might have gotten lucky but the XL looks brand new and fits a lot better. If you are taller than 6'3" you might want to try to find a XXL if they make them as the XL is about 1" longer than the G.L .Fortunately the G.L. does fit my small framed girlfriend. This vest might not be bulletproof but it beats a t- shirt and it is light. I suggest not to get shot in the first place, any armor can fail.

I shot these with some high performance DoubleTap Ammunition and I am impressed. These loads did not penetrate: 38SPecial+P 158gr SWC @ 975fps 45ACP 230gr. BDHP @ 1010fps 40SW 180gr BDHP @ 1100fps 9mm+P 147gr BDHP @ 1135fps Your results may be slightly different, but I hit two different vests marked "1988" with these loads and they held. Higher velocity loads like the 115gr 9mm, all 10mm, and all 357Mags went through one side at least. Pretty cool for this price.

I don't want to say good things about this vest, because I don't want everybody to buy them out!!! But, these are pretty cool. They are very slick looking, but don't expect to use this as a bulletproof vest!!! The kevlar inserts are the THINNEST I've ever seen. I have an IIa vest, and it's about half as thick. It would work great to supplement another vest though, and maybe add another lightweight layer of Kevlar armor. I think people on EBAY are buying these here, and then trying to sell them for $175... NOT WORTH IT... But this is a deal for at this price. I plan on wearing this in style when the ZOMBIES come.

Got the vest today after waiting for a FedEx SNAFU. This vest is an economic way to get a basic level of ballistic protection. It can be upgraded if you look around, with either more kevlar, perhaps trauma panels rated at III-A, or some light weight ceramic rifle plates - I dont know about steel plates. As another owner mentioned, the velcro inside the vest can be used to stick more armor in place, you can just get stick-on velcro kits from a craft store or something for your upgrade panels. So for 50 bucks you get basically level II-A ballistic protection on your torso, your sides, your upper shoulders, your neck-and if you want, you can upgrade it. Great job CTD....now stop using FedEx!

I received this item in October (it was a great Halloween prop with the Finnish gas mask and the East German helmet). It was part of my first order from CTD. This vest was brand new and in perfect condition. The only downside is that it seems a little faded, not much though; in terms of camouflage, it is perfectly usable. The Velcro was clean and nothing seemed worn or used. It is comfortable and lighter than I thought it would be. The Kevlar pads are held in by a zipper that keeps the pockets closed and Velcro on the inside. The Kevlar pads only have Velcro on one side while the vest has Velcro on both sides inside the pocket (this is in reference to the main chest pockets). So, not only is there room for more Kevlar, the vest is designed for more! From my searches online I have found that CTD does indeed have the best price for this item. I have also found information that the Kevlar in this vest is level II a. This is a great buy, especially when you consider the price of empty “armor carriers”. I highly recommend this vest.

I bought the CONDOR armor plate carrier which is a great buy. I put rifle plates in "stand alone" that will stop multiple 7.62x39 hits from an"ak-47". Anyways, if you go anywhere else soft panel armor is a couple hundred dollars. Being a marine, I'll tell you the truth about kevlar, even tho this is military surp, as long as the kevlar fibers haven't been damaged and they haven't been sitting around in real bright or hot rooms or climates, the kevlar panels will work,,,,should work like new..so I removed all the shoulder / neck panels and put it behind the harden plates around where my heart is, so it lessens the IMPACT or foot pounds of energy. In the front part of the vest I have 3 layers of protection, these kevlar incerts by themselves will stop 22 cal , 45 cal, and buck shotgun. 9mm and 40 I don't think so because of the velocity of the round. It's not heavy and worth every penny. Will be buying another one for my wife, for SHTF.....

I ordered this vest last week as part of a Halloween costume and to be used in general shenanigans. The short of it is that it’s awesome. Completely worth the money and much more comfortable than the vest I wore in Iraq for 12 months. It’s lightweight and very easy to move in. I tried it on earlier and ended up falling asleep with it on on the couch....so definitely comfortable. It was a great fit for me and I’m 6' even and 145 pounds, but I could tell it could adjust out much larger So don’t let that scare you normal sized people off. I would definitely buy this again if I ever need another for a friend or whatever. Plus it’s a GREAT camo pattern...much better than ACU digital.

I was concerened about the fit as I am 6' 230lb but, as others have said it fits good. Maybe a little short but otherwise fine. Well, I destroyed my first one today doing some testing but I will be ordering more. AS STATED IN THE ITEM DESCRIPTION. THIS IS NOT A BULLETPROOF VEST AND SHOULD NOT BE USED AS SUCH! That being said I decided to test mine against .22, 9mm, .40, and .38 SPL. All testing was conducted at 10yds into back of vest in different areas. Vest was hung over 2 4x8x12 cement blocks stacked on top of each other. .22LR Federal 36gr HP out of 4" Handgun. Easily stopped. Bullet was recovered on the outside of the internal "kevlar" or whatever it is, liner. I'm fairly impressed, figured a .22 would slip through. 9mm Speer Gold Dot 147gr HP out of Beretta 92. Sent the blocks tumbling with authority but bullet was recovered behind inside liner. Pretty much made it through the kevlar but barely left a mark on the cinder block. At least it slowed it way down. Of note: There was little to no expansion of the hollow point, which surprised me. Maybe the material clogged the HP? Would probably just cause a flesh wound if hit with a 9mm HP. However.... 9mm 124gr FMJ out of Beretta 92. Punched straight through back of vest and broke the top block in half. Bullet was not recovered. I'd imagine you'd still be in trouble if hit with a 9mm FMJ at this range. 38 SPL Hornady Critical Defense 115 GR HP out of Smith 442. I figured since the 9mm HP didn't open up I'd try the new Hornady CD "flextip" ammo and see if it would prevent the HP from being clogged. This round rocked the setup but didn't knock it over. Bullet was recovered on the outside of the kevlar, but it cut the inside liner so I'd say it almost made it through. Would probably leave a good mark but wouldn't kill you. Bullet did not expand, same results as the 9m HP. Bullet was a little scrunched up and flex tip was still in HP cavity. .40 SW 165 GR Speer Gold Dot out of Glock 22. Knocked the setup over and left a large hole in the inside of vest. Large dent in the block. Bullet was not recovered. Looks like this bullet opened up some due to the size of the hole on the inside. Might test again inside barn to see if I can contain the bullet. All in all for $50 I'm impressed. They are not bulletproof, but do offer some protection, more than I expected. I'll be getting a couple more soon.

I just got my today. I really like it a lot. This vest is in great condition and the Kevlar is dated 1995, not too bad. I bought this to complete my Flecktarn Camo outfit. I went with Flecktarn over Multicam because second only to Multicam, I believe Flecktarn is the best camo in the world and really inexpensive surplus. Just look at the price of this Flak vest! Where else are you going to find $10 Flecktarn shirts and $20 pants. It just makes more sense too me. I also live near Ft. Bragg, NC and Flectarn blends in well around here. Better than the Army's ACU!! There is plenty of room in the vest to add more armor. This vest also fits me pretty well. As with everything from CTD, the item was shipped exactly on time, and very securely!Opened the box to reveal a BRAND NEW, NEVER WORN Flak Vest!!! It smells like fabric, and not like anything stinky or musty. The velcro was lterally new, and the color and tone of the camo was sharp and well defined. This is truly a deal beyond any normal deal you'd find on-line. It is slightly lighter in weight than a US Flak Vest (old 80's and up) version, but is much more comfortable. It protects much better as well as far as coverage goes. The vest comes with kevlar inserts, which again are slightly lighter than the US version, but you can add plates to add more protection! As to it's protection level, various testing suggests it provides level 2A protection, which is not a guarantee at all, as these are in various conditions and are mil-surplus. However, you can obtain soft level 2 kevlar panels from bulletproofme.com for cheap and add them to the vest to up-armor it, since the pannels open up and you can add or remove kevlar Great vest, great buy.

I got the vest for a milsim paintball game, and I was concerned before I got my package in the mail (promptly too, might I add) because of the ad's warning that 'one size fits most.' I'm 6' tall and 210 lbs, and often enough 'one size fits most/all' doesn't quite fit me. The vest fits me well. I was incredibly impressed. Both sides of the vest velcro off, as does one of the shoulders. I'm too fond of mine, but I'm planning to order a second vest for some mild ballistics testing at my local range. Mine got here in almost new condition. I might have been lucky, but other than a crease here or there my vest came in perfect condition with sharp colors on the camo. Even the velcro came clean! I would never wear this vest for ballistics protection with any real expectation of stopping a bullet, but its heavy enough that it just might. Also, unlike many police style vests, the kevlar goes to the bottom of the vest, and there is no apron to tuck into your pants, leaving you one less thing to worry about when putting on your vest. I really don't think I could be happier with much else in the world for $50.

Mine was in decent shape, the kevlar pieces were nice but the actual cloth portion of the vest was torn or ripped in a couple places and other areas were well worn. I'm about 5'4" and 135lbs and the vest length was perfect, it hit at my waist and I could easily tighten the vest around my stomach area with plenty of room. Definitely a nice piece for paintballing or one day if I'm brave enough, for trap or something since the pocket in the front is a nice place to put shells - plus ya never know who'd accidently shoot ya with bird shot *wink wink*

these vests where made to stop sharpnel, not fast moving bullets, but people have been shoting these vests up and it seems they hold up well against low velocity rounds such as 380acp, 45acp and even the .40 round. faster calibers such as the 9mm luger sometimes penetrates though, and of course all high-power rifle calibers do. i've taken the sholder panels of and mounted them on the front inside, doubling the layers of kevlar over the heart-lung zone. it's not something that should be brought to a tour in iraq, but for $40 it has a given place in the shtf stash together with the gas-mask, water filter, mres and the carbine.

This is a nice flak vest. It is relatively comfortable to wear, as far as these types of flak vests go. It is priced really low, and is great for a Military collection, or German military uniform/kit for airsoft. I dont at all recommend using this for ANY actual task requiring ballistic protection(or really any real task at all). It says that it is not sold as a bullet-proof vest and that is because it isnt. This vest complies with a ballistic rating of absolutely no higher than IIA, which is the second lowest rating (most of these German flak vests would be level I-the lowest rating) according to the NIJ ballistic scale. But they supposidly protect form shrapnel.

This vest is extremely great! It is light enough to use as a Airsoft vest but heavy enough to stop the powerful rounds, up to 600 fps, with little much as a light thump through the vest. I'm 160 lbs and 5' 10" and this vest fits very loosely on me. The vest was soposedly used before but other than a stitching patch on the front you can barely tell that it was used. It is very good with the flecktarn camo, I blend in great with the woods that I compete in. It is a little heavy and will tire you out after a while, so to remedy this I just train in it with on training runs and obsticle courses. I am not usually a hard charging attacker, I am usually a guy who defends the fort, holds the line, or who escorts or protects someone. But when I do attack or when I'm defending it works perfectly for protection. In all I give this a great 5, all you need is to train in it.

My vest was like brand new! Now this vest isn't like the woodland camo one the army used, this one goes on with velcro, but fits great. The one aspect that I love about this vest is the zipper compartments where you can ADD MORE ARMOR PLATING! Can't go wrong with this vest especially for the price.

This vest is very ruged and is nice for airsofting. The reson for 4 bullets is that the poket was slightly riped.other than that its prety good.

I play paintball and use a shield to suport teamates. somtimes badguys can get behind and really cause some damage. So to solve this problem and to keep pain off my back, I got this vest. Im a smaller guy about 5'9" 140 and it fits me pretty good. You still know you got hit but if thier close u will have enough time to get turned around and get some fire on them, and not be on the ground to keep the pain off ya. cammo mixed with some Austrian fleck has allowed me to sneak up on some folks and kept me from being seen. A terrific vest, keep up the great work Cheaper Than Dirt :)

Me and my buddy each have one of these for our airsoft matches, this is a very good vest and will protect you perfectly from bb's. You can even unzip it to take the padding out and replace it with metal plates for better protection! overall I would rate this a very good flak vest.

Not bad

Well, im 270 pounds, and 6 foot 3 inches tall, but with alittel adjustment this still fits, I did some practice karate in my living room to simulate hand to hand combat, and it didnt come loose. The toughest part is getting it on, takes about a minute or so for me, helps to use a mirror. The condition is great, says it was made in 1988, there are some words on the back, I speak german so I will transelate: First words are... Only decoration..??? lol, w/e Second words are... Marquardt and Schulz (company name?) Then it says... MK (mark?) splitter guard waistcoat, short 8470-12-309-0235 Q/B52B/H0183/H2446 1988 Then there are some picutres of water with 60Celsius on it, and other symbols I think I recognize from military maps, like mountain infantry, but thats a guess. Then it says... Take protection packages out before laundry and cleaning. Carefully dry damp waistcoat. Keep in dark. Then in bold text says... NOTE! THIS WAISTCOAT CAN SAVE LIVES. Therefore it is to be treated well, so that the splitter guard remains. Not with measurers or other pointed articles except those shown. Love it, thanks CTD

This is a very nice vest. Extremely lightweight compared to other flak jackets that I have. Says one size fits most, but it gets tight on anyone over a "medium" size. Some flak jackets have some bulletproof stopping power. This on the other hand is meant strictly for combat use to stop shrapnel and other flak. It does not absorp much impact though, so you will still know you got hit.

I took this picture while on a break during a Howitzer training session in the Netherlands. My other flak vest cuaght on fire because of one of my friends stupid moves, lol. Anyways, this is a great flak vest, it does what it's supposed to, and is in good condition. Fits anyone from about 5'7" on up, it's also not very heavy. When I first put on the vest I found it to be a really good fit. Once I started to move around and play air soft, it came to me that due to the weight the vest can wear you down. All in all my experiences with the vest was great. If you like the whole armored look, and what to be sure that when you get shot by air soft you won't feel it then buy this vest.
