I anxiously waited for my F33 Feldfernsprecher (Field Telephone) set...wasn't sure what to expect after reading the other reviews, and some Internet info I was able to find. But my phones are in very good condition with no cracks or breaks anywhere. Also very clean and without rust or battery corrosion. The units are exactly as pictured in this site description, which was surprising as these units were made in many variations. My phones are dated August 1960 and November 1961. Both included the patch cables, cranks, "D" cell battery boxes, and an interesting cable with attachments on both ends that will plug into each other. Not sure what this cable is for but it's two ends match the battery box pin holes, and the bottom of the battery box receptical in the phone box itself. Don't know why you would want to...but there it is. There is a cradle for the headset that folds out on either side of the phone box's latch. The cradle is maked "OB" and is pretty well hidden. With batteries installed, the phones on their spring loaded cradles (which does the same thing as pushing the white button) and one of the patch cables connecting the two phones, I was able to ring both phones "OK" from the other and talk to myself putting one headset up to each ear. Not the best test but best I could do at the moment. All seems well and I am very happy with this unit. Got CTD's usual quick delivery too.

I was worried from the reviews that I might end up with a dud, but both work perfectly. Dated 1958 and the other 1983

I ordered 2, one worked and one didn't. Called customer service and had to send both back. Received two different ones same deal one worked and one didn't. If you want a working pair order four, and send the crappy ones back. I gave up on the whole thing. It just seemed like too much work.

After reading the previous reviews I thought I would take a chance on these. I need a good form of communications from my home to my shop on my large property. Well, you will not be disappointed with this purchase. These are excellent. A little used but you can't beat the price or the quality.

Ordered six, all were in great condition and worked well, only thing I wish they would have come with the carry strap.

Not Bad For Surplus

I bought ten of these for our country retreat. My group and I have considerable experience with field phones from our service days. CTD shipped them out fast, I was very happy with that. Of the ten, half obviously spent their life in nice bunkers, because they were very clean. The other half look like they spent their life in mobility units, were scuffed up, a little rust here and there, but otherwise sound. Of the ten, two had issues. On one the ringers doesn't work. On another it receives voice but does not transmit (not a headset problem, it's in the phone itself). I called CTD and got a human immediately (that's pretty cool these days) and arranged shipping the two back via RMA for exchange. I agree with a previous reviewer ... they could get a high school kid to test these and weed out the bad ones. Would save them RMA shipment and handling money on their end. But as a consumer, I think their service is great and these surplus phones aren't in any worse condition than I would have expected.

Easiest to use

I have purchased two different sets of field phones, Swiss and these, from Germany. I prefer the German phones, they are the easiest to use and perform well. One of the handsets on the phones I ordered was missing an earphone...I found one in an old household phone and, Voila, everything works fine. CheaperTD was notified of this problem and sent me a postage paid label to send the phones back to them for a replacement set, but as mentioned above, I resolved the issue myself. I would definitely recommend this item to all.

Not WW2

These are completely different from the WW2 style. They are good for setting up remote comm in the field but not for collections, displays, or reenacting.

Glad you guys had better luck then me. Just rceived my phones and neither one works. Called customer service and they informed me the phones aren't tested before they send them out. All you have to do is hold down the white button under the handset and crank the phone. If the phone rings, it's good, if it doesn't, the generator is shot. If you're really feeling brave just put 2 fingers on the connectors and crank. If you feel 100 volts, the phone is good. These phones could be tested in 10 seconds, which is a lot faster and cheaper than paying someone to pack and ship them. Would cut down a lot on customer frustration and dissattisfaction too.

Arrived in great shape. These appear not to have been issued. All the parts were there including english instructions. Real close to the WWII phones. They work really well.
