Poor Man's Pelican Case
Buy these now. These are excellent containers if you have to ship long guns. Most short long guns will fit if you remove their pistol grips and/or break them down. A 10/22 or shorty shotgun will fit perfectly. There are no vents, ports, openings or other entry points for dirt or water...screw the lid on tight and you're pretty much good to go. If you're the suspenders-and-a-belt kind of guy, run a bead of silicone sealant in the threads and whatever you've packed away will still be in great shape when archaeologists dig it up 500 years from now. There are no external points to add attachments for a sling or other carrying strap, but the 'knobs' at either end of the tube are perfect for looping some rope or paracord around. The material isn't as resilient as the material on a Pelican case, its a bit more brittle but, short of dropping it off a building or running it over with a tank, "normal" wear and tear should have no effect on this thing. Throw it on the floor, bounce it out of your pickup truck bed, roll it across the garage floor, slide it along the ground...should be just fine. These tubes don't turn up too often and at this price I expect they won't be around long. Even with shipping, it came out to about $15 a tube for me, which is still a bargain for a nigh-indestructible container that lends itself to all sorts of preparedness needs. Buy a bunch, you'll be glad you did and you can always find fellow like-minded individuals who will want some.
