Your Military rifle is worthless when a shell case gets stuck in the chamber. A round can separate from the rim and leave the shoulder in the chamber. With the shoulder stuck in the chamber, your long-range rifle becomes an expensive club. The only way to remove the broken shell is to slip this tool inside the case and use the extractor on your rifle. Broken shells are not common, but since there is no other way to remove the case, we highly recommend this tool for all .223 shooters. New, current production. For use with AR-15, or any rifle that shoots the .223 cal.

Instructions for use:
When the case head is torn from the case leaving the majority of the shell casing inside the chamber of your weapon you will need a Broken Shell Extractor to safely remove it from the chamber.

Insert the narrow end of BSE into the chamber with the casing stuck inside. Make sure that the inner pin is unscrewed so the end is not flared.

Once the BSE is proplerly installed into the chamber you can release the bolt. Then you can pull the bolt back, by doing so it will pull the BSE back and and the end will flare and grab the case opening where the bullet was and pull it out like a regular loaded round.

Keep one with your shooting gear, in your gunsmithing kit, or gun case. A handy, must have item for shooters and hunters.

Like most of the other reviewers, I haven't had to use this on my own rifle. I did use it recently at the range with another guy's AR. He had a cartridge tear off at the neck. He removed the bolt and lower and proceeded to try using his Gerber and then a cleaning rod (from the muzzle...) and he couldn't get it out. The range supervisor came over and gave him a bunch of bull about needing to take it to a machine shop. I pulled out my extractor and had it out in less than two minutes. It is good to know that this tool is with me in my range bag. CTD service and delivery, as always, has been top-notch!

Buy it. If you own anything in 22-224 sooner or later you are going to need it.

I am happy to say I have no idea how well this works. I have not had a shell come apart yet. However, like a spare tire, it is better to have it and not need it than othewise. For the price it is cheap insurance against a ruined day at the range. Buy it, toss it in your bag, forget about it till you need it.

The photo shows this being a rod, but that's close to the actual size. When I bought this, I thought it would be long enough to extend outside of the receiver when you are extracting a round. It's not. Don't get me wrong, it works, and has helped me get out about three rounds now, but I wish it was longer. It's a must have for every shooters gear bag.

Fortunately, I can't comment on the application of this extractor as I've not had to use it yet-thank goodness! However, I can comment on CTD, and how quickly they got the extractor to me. Ordered it, and two other items, on Weds. and received all three on Friday. Well done, CTD!

I've been carrying one of these in my rifle bag for almost a year now. Today a friend had a shell break, and we busted out the tool. Dropped the extractor in, worked the bolt, and the shell came out no problem. Our day could have been ruined, but thanks to this extractor we were able to keep shooting. The guys that were with me are ordering them right away.

I’m a gunsmith and I had a customer come into the shop with a broken case stuck in his AR. The case was visible and the very end of the case had broken off. He had one of these that he said he had tried and it didn’t work. I ask him where he got purchased it, and he said CTD. I tried to use it for about 45min with no luck. I tried many different ways to include putting it on a cleaning rod. In the end I removed the upper, the bolt and charging handle and used an "easy out", shell came right out. It was just stuck more severely than this extractor could remove, this was my only time using one of these but I wasn’t impressed.

This is a must have for you AR15 owners out there! I hope I never run into a broken shell.. but if I do, this will be waiting in my bag. Built well, fits good. For the price it is definitely worth buying. Better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

This is a truly "must have". I had a broken shell stuck in my Mini-14. The tool is simple and easy to use. The ruptured case came out easily on the first try, right there in the field. If you own any .223 or 5.6mm put this one in with your field gear. You know, it just might save your life.

I bought one of these on a whim a couple years ago thinking, "...maybe someday I might need one...". Wednesday last I was shooting my Saiga .223, which has been utterly reliable through thousands of rounds, when the bolt failed to go into battery. I performed a normal failure drill only to again have the bolt "hang up" partially in battery, but the bolt not fully forward. I figured out something was in the chamber. A quick check with a flashlight and there was a broken shell half way up the chamber, solidly wedged in. The rear of the casing had torn off (the torn section looked very much like a normal spent 9mm case). I was shooting Federal quality ammo...go figure. I pulled out my shell extractor from my range tool bag and was back shooting in 5 minutes (that is after a quick swab and safety check of the inner workings of the rifle appeared "OK"). Anyway, for the price buy one or two and always have one with you whe employing a long gun. There is NO WAY I could have solved this failure without this tool. Cheers! easy610
