When you buy 2 3/4 inch rounds it's supposed to be 2 3/4" after the shell is opened. I have a case of these RIO Royal Buckshot and they are great rounds. They clobber all the targets we shoot. But I can fit 8 rounds of this Federal 2 3/4" birdshot into my shotgun and only 7 shots of this RIO Royal Buckshot. That is because the shell length BEFORE the RIO is fired is longer than the Federal. I believe after they have both been fired they are 2 3/4". But the difference is, because of the pre-fired shell length, you can load one less shot in my shotgun. Either way, I bought a case of these for a fair price and have plenty of hand for the range when I need them. Hope this clears the air up about how many will fit in your chamber and why. For whatever reason, the shell is a bit longer before it's fired than most shells. I think it's the plastic covers they use over the buckshot.

I ordered a case of these and have not had one problem....Have fired them in a mossberg 500, remington 870, and a winchester wingmaster..not one single problem from either gun!! seem to be feeding flawlessly and are very dependable. Goes bang every single time!!! Great for the price and availability. about to buy another case to keep around the house.

Compared 5 shots to 5 shots vs Remington 00 buck and really hung in there. With my 5 shots the grouping was 11 inches at its most furthermost holes on 2 out of the 5, and around 9 1/2 on the rest. With Remington 3 where very well grouped 9 inches and the other 2 was 12 inch apart in almost a straight line. For the price difference these are great to have. Shot from a Mossberg 500 18 1/2 barrel cylinder bore.

I really needed some good shells and couldn't find the ones I wanted in stock. I almost didn't get these because people scared me into thinking they were too long. I don't know much about shotguns. I just bought my first one. I have not fired these shells yet. However, I'm looking right at the measuring tape, and it says these are exactly TWO and ONE HALF inches long. They are not 2 3/4 or 3". Are they longer than other standard shells? I have no idea, but you can bank that they are 2 1/2 inches by measurement. They loaded flawlessly in my Mossberg 500. I got 7 down the pipe and could have added one in the chamber, which is what my manual says is normal. I hope this clears things up for anyone who may of had questions. By the way, they took me only 4 days from order to delivery!
4.0 Rating Once again...length - 2/19/201312 Gauge RIO Royal Buckshot 00 Buckshot 2 3/4" 9 Pellet 250 Round Case 1345 fps RB1294.0000

I would love to give this ammo 5 stars based on performance, but I can only give it 4 due to it's non-compliance with measurements of every other round out there. Regardless of how 'accurate' RIO is with their measurements it still should not be rated as 2 3/4" ammo. My Mossberg 590a1 is meant to hold 8 rounds of '2 3/4"' ammo, or 7 rounds of '3 inch', but it's only holding 7 of these so-called 2 3/4" shells.

My Benelli M3 eats these as fast as I can put them in the thing. I have about 1500 rounds through it now.

Does not cycle at all in my Remington 887. Gets hung up and won't eject. Other brands work fine. I believe the problem stems from the large brass base on the shell. If you buy these rounds, good luck.

My Saiga-12 loves this stuff! It kicks like a mule, but adding a low kick stock now lets me shoot comfortably all day. As others have stated, these rounds are a little long. They are too long to fit in my MD Arms 20 round drums. They fit and feed flawlessly from my 3" SGM stick mags and from the Izhmash mag that came with the Saiga. Can't beat the price! Get you some!
5.0 Rating Awesome ammo! - 10/16/201212 Gauge RIO Royal Buckshot 00 Buckshot 2 3/4" 9 Pellet 250 Round Case 1345 fps RB1295.0000

Just bought a case of this ammo from CTD and fired about 50 rounds of it through my Benelli M1 Super 90. It cycled my shotgun flawlessly and had a great, tight pattern at 25 yards. This ammo is definitely worth the price! FYI: not for those who are sensitive to a strong recoil, as this ammo delivers a pretty good kick.

After receiving these, I inspected them, and everything is in order. Can't wait to try them out. Part of my long term storage, protection, and survival gear solution. You get 4 bullets so far, as I have not shot any yet. Otherwise, 5 bullet. I hear they kick a little. lol

These ARE indeed 2-3/4" shells. You CANNOT use other supposed 2-3/4" shells as a measurement reference. Grab your tape measure and go measure a 2-3/4" Remington Express 00 buck shell and you'll see the Remington is actually 2-1/2" and NOT 2-3/4" as advertised. Rio has accurately advertised their product as 2-3/4" and they are the only ones I know who provide real and accurate measurements. Remington and Winchester both are shorter than advertised. They are NOT 3" shells as many of the reviews below say. As far as patterning, these are on par with Remington Express 00 buck. From 20 yds with a Mossberg 500 18.5" ported barrel, the Rios put all 9 rounds in a 10" circle. Great buy! Don't hesitate and don't be fooled by the competition.

I just received my case of 00 Rio Royal. Haven't fired any yet. Because of past reviews that told of the over length of the shells, I knew I would be taking a chance. One reviewer stated that he didn't have a problem loading his Saiga 12 gauge. I did. They won't fit in the magazine or the drum. I haven't tried them in my pump yet. I don't see any problem there except a reduction in the number of rounds it will hold. I've been considering the purchase of a 12 gauge Coach Gun. I might just keep them exclusively for that. Don't know if I'd make another purchase. I think I'll stick to the more popular, American brands. They cost more, but I never have had a problem with them.

My first time ordering from this site, and it was great. Ordered the ammo late one evening and received it two days later. The ammo was boxed and shipped without damage. I compared the length of the shotgun shells to some target low brass 2-3/4" stuff I had, and they are slightly longer, but are shorter than the 3". Read some other reviews on other web sites and have read nothing but good things about them. I would have given it 5 bullets, but I have not shot any of them yet. The manufacturer's website say's they have been in business for a hundred years or something like that. Hope this helps others who are trying to decide to purchase.

Just received my shipment and after reading all the reviews, these RIO Royal Buckshots are indeed 3" long. It says 2-3/4" on the box? My Stoeger 2000 will still hold 4 of these in the magazine with a half inch to spare. Incredible. They are nasty little suckers. Holding a 2-3/4" shell up to it, it matches where the clear plate holding the pellets in is 2-3/4" with a 1/4" plastic lip above? Not sure if it would damage a 2-3/4" chamber?

This ammo is perfect for a Saiga 12. The extra length of shell actually helps with feeding.

I read the reviews, I understood the risk. But these are not even close to 2-3/4shells. If the box said 3" would be 5 bullets all the way. However, I'm not sure how the company can even sell such a misrepresentation of length. I know must guys would call these shells 6 inches, but I don't know of one that would call them 2-3/4". Performance is great, length is the only issue.

These are great shells. I shot over 150 and bought another case. The reason I did not give this 5 bullets was because the shell is a bit longer than a standard 2-3/4". At first, I thought my spring got tangled in the loading tube when I could not get 7 rounds in. I took my shotgun apart (Mossberg 930 SPX), checked the spring, put in back together, loaded with Super X shells, and all 7 rounds loaded. Went to the range and started loading these rounds and...what? Only 6 rounds went in. I didn't even realize they where longer until I compared them both. Otherwise, great ammo, I still will continue to buy this.

Wow, talk about hot loads. Thank you again Cheaper Than Dirt for the great ammo again. These are excellent 12 gauge 00 Buck. The only reason I didnt give 5 bullets beacuase these are slightly larger that 7 3/4" they are appriximately 1/8" longer but hot as hell. I went through about 50 rounds with out any problems, but talk about pain!

The only reason I didn't go 5 bullets is that these are not crimped shot shells and are slightly longer than a 2 3/4 shell. I was using them in a Saiga 12 and cannot load them in drum magazines. They fit and feed in standard mags though and I shot about 100 through the Saiga without a problem! Should have bought a few more cases for the price.
