I should have known better!, 04/28/2008 |

| the first time I turned these on the switch make a lot of noise and after about 10 minutes it got worse and then I had to keep tapping the switch to keep them on. now after less than an hour of use they only work about half the time. A waste of money. They may be cheaper than dirt but pound for pound, I'll take the dirt. |

| I forgot I was wearing these when I went shooting. You can hear your friends talk and blast off a few shot shells and never notice the difference. These are Awesome. |
No better for the price, 08/26/2007 |

| I was relieved when I first used these after reading the previous reviews. I had no problems with the two sets I ordered, the sound is clear and the noise cancelation feature works as advertised. This same set goes for $50 at my local gun store. I can't even find cheaper brand for this price. |

| I wouldn't wear these hunting, but they're great at the pistol range or enjoying some clay shooting. You don't need stereo on the range. You just want to have a conversation without shouting or being forced to remove your ear protection. I'm buying a second pair for my wife today. There is a cheaper dark green pair advertised here that a friend purchased. I thought I was buying his pair originally, but I ended up with these. In the end the Caldwell's are worth the extra five bucks. The amplified sound is clearer and cleaner, and the cushion is comfier. |
ES-85 Not Stereo at all, 01/21/2007 |
| Reviewer: Mark |
| When I first tried the ES-85 stereo hearing protection headphones I immediately noticed they were monophonic, or in other words, there was no sense of direction from the incoming sounds. If you are going to use amplified hearing protection headphones while hunting they had better be stereo or you wont know where sounds are coming from. As an electronics engineer I was currious and took the headphones apart. Wow was I disappointed at what I found. Both microphones were wired together on the same channel of the microphone pre-amp while all the electronic components were missing on the other pre-amp channel. Both speakers were also wired together on one channel of the stereo speaker amplifier. Even though there are two microphones and two speakers in the ES-85 headphones they are NOT STEREO as advertised. I'm sure this is not Cheaper-than-dirt's fault as there is no way to tell by looking at them. I added the other pre-amp in my headphones and made them truly stereo, however this is obviosly not practical for most people. I would suggest finding another brand of hearing protection headphones. Iif you do buy a set, put them on and snap your fingers at arms length around your head and you should be able to tell the direction of the snap. |
