 Great service, Great Knife, 06/26/2008
Reviewer: Robertking
Bought two of these after seeing them on Knifetests.com. I figured at 10 bucks I could get two without actually having tested one myself. I got the bolo and this one. Both are very nice knives and very solid and have a good hefty weight to them. Steel is pretty soft but keeps an edge. I am impressed with the knives, not with the sheaths, however. They are crap. Didn't buy them for the Sheaths though so I give it 5 stars.

For those that think the Blade will break, 06/20/2008
Reviewer: elpidi
I too was a bit skeptical about a knife that is 3/16" thick...until I saw what those guys at www.KnifeTests.com put the blade through (The videos are available for everyone to see!!) One guy, weighing in at 225 lbs even stood on the knife (which was clamped off), started bouncing up and down, and the knife wasn't even bent when he got off. He also did his best at breaking off the tip by stabbing a heavy-guage piece of sheet metal (twisting it around and all)--and the tip was just fine. Well, that made me a believer!!! So I bought this one and the CLIP POINT rough use knife. As others have noted, put an edge on it as it comes pretty dull. Just a great investment! Wow.

This knife is great. I bought it because KnifeTest.com rated the knife extremely well an it was really inexpensive. I actually bought 2 of them because of the price. I don't have to worry about ruining this knife, leaving it in the camp fire or losing it... even though it would be nearly impossible to lose this knife since it stretches past 13 inches long.

Excellent knife for the price. Less then $10 for a very decent knife. I bought this knife for everyday use and am really happy with it.

Reviewer: CIRCUS
I PURCHASED ONE OF THESE KNIVE AS A BEATER, AND BOY WAS I BLOWN AWAY. SURE THE BLACK FINISH LOOKS LIKE TRUCK BED LINER. BUT THIS THING IS SOLID AND I FEEL NO GUILT ABUSING OR USING IN HORRIBLE WEATHER. FOR THE PRICE OF 2 GALLONS OF GAS, YOU CAN HAVE A KNIFE THAT WILL LAST YEARS, YOU CAN'T PASS THIS DEAL!! IM ACTUALLY ORDERING THE BOLO VERSION, BUY TWO AND TORTURE THE LIFE OUT OF THEM!!!! ENJOY!!!

 Could be thicker, 11/17/2007
Reviewer: Wohali
It will do, for such a low price. I expected it to be thicker than 3/16", especially at towards the blade point, which is 1/16". If I use it for a throwing knife, or use it to pry something, I have no doubt that it will snap anywhere from the very point to about 1 inch back. Kudos on the price, but try to find us some thicker knives with similar excellent prices. Something 4/16" to 5/16" thickenss throughout the length of the blade.
 cant beat this , 11/01/2007

This knife is a very good knife for the price , thick blade decent grip the factory edge had some dings actually but minor, once i dull it up a bit we will see how well it holds an edge definate must have handy knife for the garage, truck or camping trips at the price you wont mind accidentally losing it or using it for whatever abusive task you run into, things i would never pull out my navy seal knife for if you like an extra pop in the knife for chopping and slashing the "Rough Use Knife 13.5" BOLO looks good
 Good for light chopping, 08/03/2007

I've been experimenting with different "rough use" knives for some time and this one comes comes close to perfect. In my opinion, A good bashing blade should be large, CHEAP, have some edge, and be easy to maintain. Yep...this pretty much does it. I expect any of the offered shapes will do nicely if you want a truly disposable but still useable blade. The crinkle finish is a bit odd but might fend off rust for a while. the finish hasn't come off in the 3 months or so I've been using it to chop weeds and sticks. I prefer a hard sheath to the soft, plastic lined one it comes with but I haven't trashed it so far despite inserting the knife in it backwards more than a few times due to my lefthandedness. Do yourself a favor and toss the included rough stone in your junk drawer and buy a real set of sharpening stones. This knife won't replace my dad's original kabar fighter or be of any use making a deer into meat but it's a very useable bush blade if you want something shorter than a machete that still has some weight to it for cutting through those impossible sections.
 Fantastic Knife Value!, 07/13/2007

You simply WILL NOT find a better utility knife for under twelve bucks. I torture tested this knife within the first hour after it arrived. A small tree had blow down in my yard the previous day, so I took this knife outside and hacked through a 7" thick hardwood log in less than five minutes of enthusiastic chopping. The full-tang construction handled the hard use, and the shock-absorbing hard rubber handle protected my hand from the force of repeated heavy blows. I came inside and rinsed off the blade to reveal that the black oxide finish was in good shape, and then I sliced cleanly through several sheets of newsprint without ripping to find that the blade's edge had retained its considerable sharpness. Get (at least) one!
 Great Knife!, 06/12/2007

Man, when i bought this knife, i sure wasn't expecting this. It's huge, first of all, very sturdy, great tool and weapon. I have several "rough use" knives, but this is by far the best one, and it's also the cheapest by about 15 bucks. I would definitely reccomend this blade to anybody. probably gonna buy the Bolo version as well, with the beef on this knife, would make a decent small machete. Thanks CTD.

I purchased this knife for two reasons: 1) The price, and 2) the favorable reviews. I figured that even if it wasn't a decent knife, I could leave it in a drawer or something. With this having been my first order from CheaperThanDirt, I figured I would of been out $10 if it was junk. When my order arrived (I ordered another knife also), the moment I hefted this bowie, I knew that all of the positive reviews I read hadn't done this knife justice. This is indeed a great knife. I was able to put a decent edge on this knife with little problem (something I know how to do). Good steel, great feeling in the hand, and good edge. I was going hunting a couple weeks after I got my order, so I threw this treasure in my daypack and away I went! I figured if I needed an outdoor knife/machete/whatever...this one was the job finisher. Buy this knife. You won't be disapointed.
nothing more or less than advertised, 05/03/2007

A fair price on this Chinese rough-use bowie knife. It looks basic and utilitarian - it'll never win a beauty contest, and I doubt anyone would feel particularly guilty about tossing this into a toolbox or leaving it at a hunting cabin or hanging in a tool shed next to hammers and crowbars. And I suppose that's the point of a rough-use knife: it's there to take the beatings you'd never want to inflict on a nicer knife. It doesn't seem especially sharp, but it'll probably cut meat if necessary. It does seem heavy and solid enough to pass for a small machete in a pinch, and it'll probably chop through small branches, and with a hammer it might also split firewood in an emergency.

I purchased this knife for my brother who has never been hunting in his life. I plan to take him up this year for his first buck. The knife is a well built knife. The thick steel give it a nice weight and a good look. For the price and quality it cant get any better than it is. I recommend this product for gifts or for that first knife for your kid.
