I fully expected this knife to be somewhat low quality, even with the previous reviews, but I have been very surprised by it. It is a heavy duty knife and seems to be put together very well. The blade is thick (except at the very tip) and because of the low price I would have not problems using it on my many camping trips for any kind of hacking or cutting need. I would not use it for prying out of fear of breaking the very tip of it. The blade I received was very sharp out of the box. Excellent quality for the price.

I have to dispute the review written by "James". In downtown Chicago a Bowie may not be your best choice, but in real world CQC, one is all I used. Spent 2 tours in Viet Nam, and CQC was a fairly common obstacle. I was a covert operator in Laos & Cambodia during the Nam war. As a sniper it was imperative that I reach site without detection, meaninq SILENTLY. The sight of a Bowie always caused pause in the enemy's face. Pure intimadation. Pause in CQC brings death. No bladed weapon caused "pause" like a Bowie! THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS WHEN ARMING YOURSELF WITH A KNIFE, ARE WHERE, AND HOW, WILL THE WEAPON BE EMPLOYED. OFTEN, THE BEST FIT WAS ONLY A BOWIE! BEEN THERE DONE THAT! YOU'RE WELCOME!

I bought this along with an army survival manual for a friend's son who earned his Eagle Scout badge. The young man was thrilled with the gift. His younger brother want's the same thing when he earns his Eagle as well! It is big and heavy but that is what a bowie is supposed to right, Just ask Jim Bowie and Davy Crocket... Remember the Alamo!

This knife really is sweet. Heavy and strong. 440 stainless is all I buy so it dosen't need to be sharpened every time you use it.

I bought this knife simply for the purpose of saying i own a Bowie Knife. That is really all its good for pretty heavy and as it says a full 14'' handle is not that great barely bigger than my hand and my hands are not too big. Has a decent edge, but as i said not much practical use big and heavy very intimidating.
