If you are looking for fun cheap and quiet plinker on your AR then this is a solution. But there are side effects tho this conversion. 1-You need to spray CLP before the installation for it not to get stuck. 2-The blow back (back fires) from the gas tube will blow dust and particles on your face and cheeks...that hurts! And this kit would not accept PRI gas buster neither, seriously wear glasses at all time. 3-Until the bolt break-in in the 5.56 chamber some chunk of materials and metal maybe lost during that process. 4-There will be gum and heavy residue left on your upper, lower, and especially gas tube...spend 2 hours cleaning it if you don't mind. Other than the above it is quite worth what you paid for.

I ordered this item on Monday along with some Black Dog mags, received it all on Thursday!
I went out to the range today with a brick of cheap 22 ammo, "Federal Lightning" that cost me about $10 last summer.
I shot 300 rounds through my M&P-15 with this conversion and it performed flawlessly. The grouping was about 1" @ 40 yds and I punched the same hole several times while sighting it in.
Rapid fire performance was excellent.
I am looking forward to next weekend!!

I bought it directly from Ceiner. Install was so simple it worried me, works in Bushmaster and Colt great. Worst part is now I gotta buy more 22 lr ammo and another kit so both of my grandsons can shoot at the same time.
Black dog mags are a must, Ceiner mags have negative air pressure....they Suck, BIGTIME. Spend the $30 for the mag.

I bought a Ciener kit and was excited to begin saving money on it. It installed easily in my model 1 sales/bushmaster gun. However it did not feed or cycle with any of the ammo I used on it. When I took the upper off and tried to remove the conversion kit, IT WAS STUCK. I cannot remove it, it will not come out. So my entire upper is out of action. That means I can't return the defective part or shoot my gun! And forget about talking to the manufacturer, they dont answer the phone, and the warranty section of their website isn't there. HORRIBLE, now I am out $200 and whatever the gunsmith charges to remove it!!!!!

I've been sitting on the fence for years now about whether to buy one of these for several reasons: 1) I wasn't sure they were accurate. 2) I didn't understand exactly how they worked, so I was worried if they could possibly damage my weapon. 3) I have heard horror stories about buying them from Ciener himself regarding lead time (6-12 months!) and other issues (seriously, there's a website called www.donotbuyciener22lrconversions.org). Well, I just got mine (ordered Monday morning, arrived Wednesday afternoon; that's what I'm talkin' about!) and I am able to hit beer...I mean, soda cans from about 50 yards with little trouble (iron sights, mind you), and now that I can see how it works, I am not in the least worried about it damaging my rifle. If you're curious about that, the tube you see to the right in the picture is a "liner" for the OEM chamber that basically extends the barrel and creates a new chamber further back, and the bolt carrier is completely contained in the unit you see, i.e. this conversion makes no use of the rifle's buffer spring b/c it has it's own, and the travel of the bolt is only the length of the conversion. So, if you are like me and thought the conversion was a straight replacement bolt carrier, that's not quite how it works. The good news is that all of the moving parts are contained in the conversion itself, and they make no use of the rifles components. There's a little more to it than that, but that's the basic idea. Check out my review on the Blackdog mags for this conversion as well! Thanks CTD!

I kept looking and looking and looking at this page, wondering if I should buy this or not. I finally took my chance and bought it with no regrets what so ever! I had previously bought it for an M16A2 upper with a semi-auto lower AR-15 and it works great on that! However, on my M&P-15T, the bottom of the bolt for the conversion keeps getting caught on the bolt catch every time it goes back to insert another cartridge into the chamber. Other than that, I have no quarrels with it what so ever. I just thought it was weird since it worked on one AR, but not the other.

Anyone who does not love this conversion must not know how to use it! I bought this last week for my m-4 and this thing rocks! I fired 40 gr and 35gr rounds thru my weapon and it never missfed ....not even once out of 150rds fresh out of the box!
this is a great way to shoot the ar-15 family more often and expend cheap ammo. The clean up after was very easy....not much left behind, I have read where some people say it gets very dirty, however if you were ever in the military and used a blank adaptor and fired 100's of blanks. the m-16/ar-15 would still fire live rounds after words with a good cleaning. .22 rimfire rounds are no where as dirty as 5.56 blanks, so there should not be a problem with fouling......great buy....GET ONE!

got this about 2 months ago and to be honest, It was a nightmare using 36 or 37 grain ammo.but once I put cci or winchester 40 grain in the blackdog mags, i was going threw 500 round bricks like it was going out of style. In my shooting I had a lot of fouling after. had to clean alittle after 700 rounds. all good though. I would recamend this just because its alot cheaper to shoot and safer knowing the rounds cant go to far. the range I shot at was 85' max 25 shots all within 3" so i would say pretty good I here it drops after 25 yards.

I received my conversion kit late last week. I finally took it out to the range expecting minor problems since I had seen some negative feedback. I shot 200 rounds of CCI 40grain ammo and did not have a single misfire or jam. The 10 round clip does not catch therefore you have to be careful to count the rounds. The solution for this is to purchase a much cooler looking high round mag. Overall, I was not disapointed and expect the product to last based on its first days performance.

I bought this conversion a month ago. Its the best investment i made yet. You should buy the BLACK DOG MAGS and throw away the ten round mag. that comes with the kit. Then you don't have to worry about counting the shots because with BLACK DOG MAGS it always leaves the bolt open on the last shot so it doesn't break your firing pin.

I bought this for my DPMS AR-15 a couple years ago. Since the 10 round magazine does not have a follower, after 10 rounds you'll dry fire if you don't count the shots, causing firing pin breakage after 3,000 rounds. NO JAMS, NO FAILURE TO FEED, NO PROBLEMS! Parts are available online, I got a new pin for $10.00 put it in myself.. THIS KIT IS A MUST!! You will need to fire about 10 rounds of .223 to clean the gas tube after 1,000+ rounds. This is the BEST buy for an AR-15.... YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!

On 6/1108 I wrote that I had some problems with my unit initially. I've shot it a lot more and haven't had any more problems. It seems the phosphate (?) coating on the bolt and rails was causing some drag. Now, the bolt and rails are steel-on-steel and the kit works fine. One rater said the .22 rounds clog his gas tube. I'd suggest shooting copper jacketed/washed .22s. I don't have a problem using them. But, I still fire a few 5.56 rounds every few hundred rounds of .22LR. Great product!

Took it to the range today. Shot CCI mini-mag and Winchester Super X through it. Both are 40gr high velocity 1300 fps rounds. All shot and cycled flawlessly. Point of impact is a little different than that of my regular .223 rounds, but that is to be expected. For the price I'll save in ammo alone, I can afford to get another scope and zero it for the .22 rounds and swap scopes at the same time I install the kit. The kit fits and works perfectly in my Bushmaster.
Had a little delivery issue - not caused by CTD, but by Fedex. But CTD stepped in and helped track it down. I got it a day later than I thought, but 1 day compared to several weeks if you try to order this straight from Ciener, is a real bargain.

Decided to give it a try due to hi ammo costs for .223. Was a bit worried about all the neg feedback I've read about Ceiner, but mine arrived quickly and operated without fault. It even worked with some .22LR that I've had for 7+ years! Not quite the kick of the new .22 ammo I bought, but it shows that you don't need much recoil for it to cycle. That's a good sign for some of the special Aguila ammo, such as the sub-sonic. I give it 4 out of 5 due to price. Given the demand, I don't know why there aren't more makers of conversion kits, which would help drop prices. In the meantime, it's a good buy and worked just fine for me!

First of all, let me say this is a well made, very dependable conversion kit...I just ordered my second from CTD. I am very pleased with the results. I own 4 Ciener kits. 2 for my AR-15, one for my Beretta 92FS and one for my 1911. JAC makes the best conversion kits PERIOD. Just for comparison, I do own 2 Advantage Arms kits (1911 and Glock21) they are good kits BUT the JAC's are BEST. Always metal mags, (AA'a are polymer), and very well thought out. Sure, some say he is an ass, no customer service, slow to ship, etc, etc, etc. Yup, this may be the case but I have NEVER read of a case where JAC doesn't deliver the product..sooner or mostly later. He may be slow and a total jackass at customer service but he is NOT a crook. Paitence is a virtue, read their website, they do say they are "SWAMPPED" with orders. I placed an order (from JAC directly) for 2 pistol kits and a pile of 30rd AR-15 mags in Jun 2008, order rec'd in Oct 2008. Delay-OK, I read their website and understand the delay. I just now ordered another AR-15 kit from CTD, you pay a little more (vs direct from JAC) but get it faster. I ordered mine from CTD because I want it fast...before election day. If the wrong person gets elected, we may find the 1994 CB re-enacted. I was just getting into guns in 1994 and it really sucked paying $69 for 30rd mags for my 10/22. ...once bitten-twice shy...

This is a fairly good product. I received mine within 3 days as was promised. The kit works fine. The mag fits fairly tight. It will not fall out on its own, but I didn't expect that. A little filling helped. It jams about every 100-200 rounds which is pretty good. It does build up a lot of hard carbon but it is nothing that a scraper and some cleaner can't handle. It takes about 20 seconds to put the new bolt in and it slides right into place. When charging the weapon the handle only goes back about 2 inches. The charging handle will also not lock to the rear. It is very accurate at 25 yards. I had to move my rear sight up 3 clicks and then I was dead on (at 25 yards)
Overall it is a great product that will save me a lot of money. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested. Also just as a warning only shoot copper jacked rounds. The all lead rounds will screw around with your barrel and gas system.

I recommend buying several of the additional magazines, you will want them once you go through a few rounds. Go ahead, just get it, you wont regret it.

This kit works well with my Rock River AR-15, but the firing pin broke after 5,000 rounds. I saw some of the reviews that had the same complaint. We should all write Arthur Ciener and strongly recommend that the firing pins for the AR-15 conversion kit be made of titanium or offer titanium firing pins as an option. I would be willing to pay $20 more for this feature.

went to the range with my bushmaster m4 a3. i was able to put well over 350 rounds down range with out a single hickup. i did notice that if you hold the triger just right it will send all of the rounds down range. but that is just a shooter issue. the converstion kit works as it should. i would reccomend that you buy the large cap. mags for this. 10 rounds is just not enough. very accurate. i even broke a few plinking targets. the system takes a lil thought to clean well. and if you dont keep track of how many rounds where shot, after the last one you will have to pull the charging handle to the rear to put the weapon on safe. but all in all. this is a great product. great for training and for fun. i have told everyone that iknow that has an m16/ar15/m4 to get this. so much cheaper on bullites as well.

This conversion kit is one of the best investments since my Stag Arms AR. It shoots flawlessly. Just yesterday I was shooting jack rabits with this plus my Aimpoint Comp M2 and couldn't miss. I will give this 5 bullets anyday, but I also strongly recomend wearing eye protection while shooting this because I have been hit with some fragments of hot gunpowder while shooting this. But don't let this discourage you to buy it because it doesn't happen that much, isn't that bad when it happens, and is just something a lot of semi or fully automatic guns do.

The first time I used the Ciener kit, I had a lot of failures-to-feed, even tho I'd cleaned and lubed it before shooting. I took it home, cleaned it and lubed it and then lubed it some more. I just got back for shooting high velocity 40 grain loads and standard velocity loads and it ran like a top, except for the first round that failed to fully eject. The kit is more accurate than I can hold. I'd recommend it for anyone with an AR-type rifle. One of the reviewers had problems using the kit with his S&W M&P15. I've got the -15T version and don't have a problem with it as long as it's well lubed. Not many things are fun and inexpensive these days - this is one of them.

This kit works very well with the factory 10 round magazine. No malfunctions in about 100 rounds with that mag. Shoots into 1" at 50 yds in my Bushmaster Carbon 15, which has a 1:8 twist barrel. The two Blackdog 30 round magazines I bought gave me a lot of trouble with jams. They are the older, skinny style magazines still available. Empty cases kept jamming between the end of the charging handle and the kit. It took awhile to figure out that you need to leave the charge handle forward and push the bolt back with your finger to clear it. Cases and case pieces jammed in other locations also. The plastic mags seem to drag on the bolt as its cycling. Even with some smoothing and trimming, I couldn't get them to work. I plan to return the mags and buy some Ciener 30 rounders. It was very cool seeing bullet holes appear in the target down range without much sound and no recoil. This kit is a great option to have and should work very well in teaching shooting to any new shooter, but especially children.

I have both the original military M261 as well as the Ceiner M16 conversion kits and love them both! The Military surplus M261 is semi only but works perfectly with the 10 round mags that fit inside a .223 mag, the Ceiner can fire in full auto only if you buy the kit specifically for the M16, it has a Sear Trip to operate the auto sear included with it that the AR15 kit does not have, (of course unless you have a M16 you don't need that part) in a registered receiver M16 it works very well at doing 30 round mag dumps with little maintenance. These kits are lots of fun, a lot cheaper to shoot and the point of aim is only about 6" lower than .223 at 100 yards. I frequently use mine with my Gemtech Out Back, Aquilla 60 grain SSS and a 1in 9 twist barrel, it is very quiet and very accurate. It is like the SSS ammo was just made for this application!
As for cleaning your .223 gas system I always make sure to carry a mag full of .223's with me and just fire them when I am done for the day, this cleans out the gas system and ensures the firearm is ready to operate next time (though I have never had a problem)
I would definitely recommend these kits for anyone wanting to have fun plinking for less $$$. Ammo these days in out of sight!
Excellent investment for the money, sure to bring a lot more use of your AR15 than firing .223 alone. Buy one and enjoy your time at the range

I purchased several of these after I used a friend's .22 kit, (I tried to wear it out). A little stiff out of the box but all work excellent after breaking in. You can either shoot it or lightly run a flat file over the slide rails, top and bottom, to break it in. You are NOT filing to remove metal just to "wear" it in, smoother than it is. These kits like generous amount of REM-OIL spray (Item #: 66946). I've shot mine in both full-auto and semi-auto with no mechanical problems. Black Dog mags are an excellent accessory for this kit as well.(Item #: MAG-081). Accuracy is decent out of a "old" 1-12 twist 20" M16 barrel using Fed Valu-pak ammo. Bowling pins at 100yds, open sights, every time. Don't expect match accuracy.

Took mine out to the range today. Worked good for about 30 rounds then everything failed to extract. Took it out and the extractor and was chipped and was no longer grabbing the round. I put the original carrier back in place and it now wont cycle properly with .223.
When I went to clean my AR15 I found the bolt carrier key was damaged because the 22 shells that failed to eject bent the gas tube so when the original bolt carrier was installed it hit the key and nicked it.
When I got home I found the OEMs site for the conversion kit had all of the contact pages broken on their web site. They list the part as only $ 5.00 but show no instructions on how the unit disassembles to replace it. A search of the web shows numerous bad reviews on customer service and how they are so back ordered they don't answer emails or faxes.
For the people it worked for congratulations but the chance of it breaking the firearm is not worth the price.

Given the price of .223 these days being able to shoot .22 is a huge bonus and a big part of the reason I bought the rifle. Using an AR-15 as a .22 plinker definitely makes it the most bad-ass (and fun) plinker around. If you're out for fun shooting like me and can't thousands of rounds of .223, buy one today. I wrote a review a while back about my new conversion kit, I must say it's getting better. I quit using the Remington ammo with a wax coating and started using Federal and I'm getting better results. I could have sent the kit back, but for the money if it keeps improving it will be well worth the trials. The other thing is that I only shot about 100 rds of 223 so the blue finish wasn't even smothed out yet on the moving parts. The gun is so fun to shoot in 22lr. I'll continue to give feed back on my conversion kit. Even if I don't ever get all the perfect shots like some of you have had it's still a awsome investment when you look at the price's of 223 ammo. I was thinking I wanted a dedicated .22LR upper, but I really wanted to use my current optics, as well as having the same weight and feel, etc, so I went with the conversion kit. I'm so glad I did. I see 1 or 2 horror stories posted here, and I feel for them, but I guess you can get a lemon with anything. Mine worked perfect right out of the box. I have had 1 stovepipe in 500 rounds of bulk Winchester ammo, and perfect performance with 1000 rounds of bulk Remington. That's around $35 of 22 ammo. 1500 rounds of .223 will run you $500 at least. I say, if you're on the fence about getting one of these, just go ahead and do it. Yea, the price has jumped up $30 recently, but don't wait till it goes up even more. You'll save the cost of the whole thing in one afternoon at the range. Get a few of the blackdogmachine 30 round mags as well. They are good quality for the money and you will definitly want at least a couple. The 'smoke' ones are dark enough to look 'cool' and still let you see what you've got left.

Definately a good investment. I have an RRA and this conversion works great. It particularly seems to like the cheap bulk packs of 22lr. Accuracy is pretty good and becomes down right respectable with 60gr Aquila Sniper Sub Sonics. Even with sustained rapid fire you are at no risk of harming your barrel as you are with 223. Your rifle will get dirty quickly however, so take an aerosal cleaner along if you plan on going through more than 1000 rounds. My cycling reliablity went up dramatically after smoothing the surfaces by disassembling the unit and tossing it in my brass tumbler, which I highly recommend.

I absolutely love this mod. It works great and hits accurate to at least 100 yards. It's great to go from paying 20 dollars for 20 .223 rounds to 10 bucks for 500 rounds of 22 lr.
Kit works great

Received my conversion kit and took it to the field. It was simple to install (no special tools). If you can semi-field strip your ar-15, you can install this kit in about 60 seconds. No exaduration! It fired without a jam and for close quarters training or just plinking - its a blast. Cheap to. My young daughters always want to fire my guns.... this is perfect for them to handle and build confidence with a full size weapon.
I hope you have better luck

I see that a lot of people have had success with this product. Unfortunately I have not (yet).
I have found that my Ciener kit will not go completely into battery. The bolt face simply will not close once it is installed. It appears that it is getting caught up on the bolt catch. It's hard to see from the mag well you can easily feel it when you put your finger on the bolt catch release button and let it shut.
Anyway, I'm trying to decide whether to return the thing or do some gunsmithing on it (which will certainly void any warranties and preclude me from being able to return it.
Good luck with yours.

Just recieved my kit on thursday ,great service. Went to the range Saturday with it. What a blast to shoot. Shot a brick of Winchester Super X copper washed High Vel and worked great ,not one fail to fire or jam!!!
After I ran out of 22lr I switched back to .223 . Took about one minute . Then shot a twenty round box thru it. At the price that .223 is going for this is great . 3 cents per round VS .30 to .50 cents a round. Time to stock up on .22LR ammo!! I will be converting my 1911 pistol soon also and maybe my AK-47 . I also want to get a 30 round mag .
Excellent!

I received this item today, went straight to the range with it, and fired 500 rounds (high velocity cartridges) through it without a single misfire, or misfeed.
It is also surprisingly accurate! I highly recommend it!
AWSOME!

Get one then get a bunch of 30rd mags. You will save lots of money on ammo. Your wife will love you more not spending money on .223.

First the service was great. I placed my order on Thursday and received
it on Monday morning. If you own an AR15 you should have this kit. It
fits and functions as claimed. I will shoot the .22 and save enough to pay
for this kit in no time.

This conversion is great. It is easy to change, cheap to use and you can shoot in indoor ranges. The only draw back is the accuracy and mags. The accuracy could be better but I haven't not spent much time on that. The mags should all be 30rd and cheaper, but those are the only draw backs. Great for plinking and fun target practice. I have a converison for my Glock, but that doesn't always work unless you have the right ammo. The AR-15 conversion, will jam a little bit with the wrong ammo, but not as sensitive as the glock. Good deal.

I didn’t think I would use this all that much but thought it would be nice to have so my rifle could shoot .223 and .22LR. Now I shoot the 22 LR more than anything. Since my wife and kids have started shooting the AR conversion is what they prefer. My boys will almost shoot a whole brick in one sitting and this conversion keeps working. I have never had a problem with it. I am saving so much on ammo. I am glad I purchased this.
