8mm romainian

This ammo is great stuff! This Romanian surplus 8mm is just about the best and cheapest surplus stuff going now and Cheaper Than Dirt has the best price on it. The brass-cased Yugoslavian 8mm you see elsewhere has some issues such as in some batches the primers were too recessed and will fail to fire in some rifles because of this. This Romanian stuff is top notch though. I’ve fired a whole crate of 720 rounds (same ammo just without stripper clips) through my 1919a4 without one stoppage. (Except for running out of belt) ;). The cases are lacquered though so if you have an old rifle with a rough chamber or are running it through a full auto just remember to clean the chamber afterwards. My favorite thing about this ammo is when you shoot it at night the soft steel core will shower bright orange sparks when you hit hard surfaces like rocks or flat metal targets.

This ammunition has a 154.2 grain copper-coated steel boat-tail bullet in a steel case with corrosive priming and 56.6 grains of graphite coated stick powder. In my M43 Spanish mauser it holds an 8-ring at 200 yards on an SR-C target. Pulling the powder and bullets (an activity not to be tried by beginners) and loading them to the original length over CCI SR primers in brass cases formed from LC 30-06 cases, brought that group down so that it held a 9-ring. As is, this is good practice ammunition; with some work, it can compare to ammunition fabricated from far more expensive commercial components.
Opening the can

It shoots great, I have had no issues. Those who have had issues opening these tins, this is what I do, and I have opened a few. Just take an air or pneumatic grinder to the lip. As you go you will see the seperation of the lid and the tub. The solder will losen in the corners and it pops right off. It takes longer to dig out the grinder and plug it in than it does to do it. Plus the tub stays in good shape and can be used for all sorts of stuff.

I have shot more that onehalf of a can an only one bullet primer didnot go off on the first fire but the second time shot right off. These bullets shot just fine out of my 8mm yugo rifle. For the price a great deal. And you should clean your firearm after any bullets you shoot out of it in my opinon.

This is very good ammunition. High quality and packs one hell of a wollop. It is corrosive, but if you clean it you are good to go. Don't fire a hundred rounds and then put it back in your safe for 5 or 6 years and it won't eat the metal parts off your rifle. The spam can is hard as hell to open though. Wish it came with some sort of opener!

This is very good ammo with the best clips I have seen. I miked the bullets at .321. a recovered steal penetrator miked at 6mm. I'm not a big fan of steal cased ammo but it didn't cause any trouble. I didn't get a can opener with my ammo, witch was a little disappointing. I was impressed with the projectiles penetration. At 75 yards, I got clean holes in the hub of an f-450 brake rotor, and clean penetration through the first half of the double walled brake surface area.
For comparison, I tested this ammo against a friends .25-06. The .25-06 will penetrate a 1/4 inch plow disk with factory hollow points, witch .308 .30-06 and stranded 8mm will not. The .25-06 barley dented the brake rotor, and this ammo turned it into Swiss cheese.

Good ammo, no misfires, great price. While I'm not knowledgeable enough to know for sure, I've been told too many times this type of ammo is corrosive.

Non corrosive? This ammo is without a doubt, corrosive as is most com bloc ammo of this era. However it's no biggie, just clean your weapon properly as soon as you can. The Romanian is good stuff, bullets are .321 in diameter, is loaded to about 2500 FPS. Which means you can use it in your Gew 88 rifle providing your bore's grooves slug to .320 or bigger. This is about the lightest loaded ammo out there for 8mm, in the surplus world that is.

This is awesome ammo at a truly awesome price, especially in these....uncertain days for the U.S. gun trade. The clips are high quality, not some second rate sks style but instead real nice looking. As the other guy said, these are of course corrosive but that is irrelevant to the value here.
