I have been using this ammo in my Remington 700 SPS Varmint w/ 26" barrel and can easily put .5 MOA grouping at 100yards on paper. Love the accuracy and consistency!

This ammo was dead on at 200 zero with 1/4 five round from a Sav Model 10FP McMillan. Only complaint was like everyone else the copper left behind but at this price I scrapped it off.

My LR-308 AP4 16" barrel from DPMS can put five rounds touching with this ammo @ 100yrds. This in spite of my sub-par shooting skills.

My 700 Police 26" .308 loves this round. I have been considering reloading but I may just stock up on this stuff. Very consistent. .5moa at 100yds all day long.

My 20" FN PBR loves this stuff. I have tried numerous types of high end .308 ammo and this stuff groups the tightest hands down. I can consistently shoot 1/2 in groups at 100 yards and that's if I pull one. I've seen a guy shot 3 rounds inside a pinky nail from 100 yards in the prone with bipods and a sand sock. That was out of a Sako. If you don't want to reload and want to spend a little more money this is the stuff to get.

not bad, for factory

this ammo is fairly good, for being a factory round. when i first got my savage 10fcp i wanted to put something good through it. when shooting the first 5 shots through the gun i put up a 1" inch group at 100 (cleaning between shots, aside from one shot i jerked the trigger a little bit (i have it at just a little over 1-1/2 lbs and i was not used to the accu trigger ether (great trigger system!!!)), i believe it could have been better with out the wind and that little jerk. i think this ammo is fairly impressive for factory but i can only give it a 4 because it just wasnt all it was hyped up to be. but then again, im not surprized. but for those of you who like to shoot factory ammo, give this a try.

My rig: Savage Model 10FP with a 20" barrel- standard stock that came with the gun- Nikon 6-18X40SF BuckMaster scope. (By the way, one hell of a rig for under $1,000!) I have spent HOURS at the range determined to find the RIGHT ammo that tickles the taste buds of this gun. I have shot 11 diffrent brands and weights through it. The Match-King prevfails. Albeit not by leaps and bounds, but it inches (no pun intended) out the competition. One ragged hole is the norm. Even in a rather warm barrel, one ragged hole.. I have not had any of the quality control issues described here. If I had, I certainly would not brush away the fillings and go shoot my gun. Would you scrape of the rotten part of a steak and continue with it? If its bad QC there, then you cant see whats inside that round. More there than meets the eye I'm sure. I saw those pictures. Wow. But never has happened to me, ever. This review is more for the bullet. The 168gr. Match King is a wonder for the .308. A perfect ballance of weight and design that a good .308 will love. Most of my shooting is no longer than 400-500 meters by the way. Have not shot this round in this gun at those ranges that are too far to care about unless in competition. Its the bullet my friends. I have shot this bullet in the Federal load as well as the Remington load with the same result. Remingtons gold box Match King is a very good loading of this bullet too. The bullets even look a little cleaner!. Anyway, the gun helps. Try one my friends. And dont let anyone tell you the 20" barrel is too short. It is the perfect combination of form and function. Excellent bullet.

One of my family members has a place in the NC mountains and has a little grape orchard. The deer have been ruining it for the past few years. The Wildlife Office issued him a depredation permit to for the problem. Last weekend our families went up for a weeknd. I only took box of the Federal with me not expecting to see many after the first few shots. In 2 days I had shot and killed 8 deer (I used 5 to sight in my weapon) and have 3 rounds left. My uncle had a fit and is now trying to buy my weapon and'find the Federal Gold Match. Good luck on both ... mine isn't for sale and Gold Match has becomes like GOLD ... buy it if available you'll love.

I have fired hundreds of rounds Federal Gold Match through my Savage Model 10 .308 over the course of several years. The ammunition consistently posts sub-MOA groups out to 500 yards. This is consistent with reports from shooting professionals, military marksmen, target competitors, and gun magazine reporters. I do not question those who have seen "manufacturing irregularities" in the FGMM they purchased, but in shooting the pudding that proves the round is holes in a target. At that end of the range, this is excellent ammunition.

I use this ammo primarily out of my Steyr SSG-04 and can consistently shoot sub-MOA groups from 100-400 yards. At 100 yards a five shot group usually leaves a single large hole. I have shot well with other rifles and ammo but this ammo is so consistent and dependable and at this price it can not be beat. I have shot about 2000 rounds of this ammo and I have never had a round fail to fire and, curiously, I have never experienced any of the shavings problems reported above. I sometimes buy HSM Match Grade at lower price but when it really counts I shoot the Federal Gold Match. I love this ammo and it makes me a better shooter.

I ordered 2 boxes of this stuff online at 5:41pm on a Monday, selected the cheapest shipping option ($10.31), paid my sales tax for in-state delivery (TX), and FedEx showed up at my office in San Antonio at 9:05am Tuesday morning! Granted, Ft Worth is only about a 4 hour drive from here, but I hadn't even finished my coffee. Now the not-so-great news: like a couple other reviewers, about half of the rounds have the copper shavings around the case mouth, like the bullet was too tight going in. I have no reloading experience, so I don't know how big a deal this is. Seeing as the bullet will scrape it's way down the barrel at 2600 fps anyway, I'm guessing it's not going to matter. I plan on going to the range tomorrow with my accuracy-challenged AR-10 carbine, along with some Black Hills Gold. I'll report the results.

Super Accuracy

I've been reloading for over 40 years and used to compete in NBRSA matches, so I know about accuracy! I'm using this ammo in a DPMS LR308 with a 24" SS match grade barrel, a Timney trigger and a Leupold Mark 4 scope and rings. I get 5 shot groups that are usually less than 1/2 MOA, which is just about as good as I get from hand loads using match grade brass, primers and the same Sierra bullets. I weigh every case, powder charge and use Redding Competition dies. I'd say that's pretty good accuracy from a semi automatic rifle. The only thing that I've found to shoot a little better is the same hand loads using Sierra's 155 gr. Palma Match bullet.

fired 5 rounds @ 100 yards with a savage 10 bull barrel tactic 24" with accurate gunsmithing tactical muzzle brake, H&S precision stock @ sea level, 7O degrees with a 4mph crosswind: first two rounds were hole in hole bullseye, next three shots were 3/8" group. A+++++++++++++++++++++++

Like the guy before me, the two boxes that I got shows that the bullets have been shaved during the loading process. For these prices, this should not be happening. A damaged base will ruin accuracy the same way a bad crown will. Fiochii exacta costs a few dollars less but doesn't show the same problem... if the fiochii shoots better i might just five federal a call.

Quality control issues

Based on every single glowing review of this ammunition, I purchased a single box to put through my Savage 10FP. I'd love to regale you with tales of five-round groups through a single hole, but I have yet to fire the ammo due to some quality control issues with the bullets and/or brass. The bullets appear to have been shaved as they were pressed into the casing and there are metal flakes surrounding the neck of the brass. The flakes can be scraped off with a fingertip, but I shouldn't have to do that for over this price. I know this is frowned upon, but I've posted a picture here: http://homepage.mac.com/pdbreske/firingline/PICT8443.jpg. Maybe someone else has had the same problem and Federal (or CTD) needs to made aware of it. It's Christmas Day 2008 as I write this and Federal isn't accepting any emails until Jan 5th, so I'll wait until then to let them know, but be aware that not all is well in their QC department. I will amend this review when and if I get new ammo.

I've been hitting 3-4 inch groups with my Savage 10FLP .308 and I thought it was either me or the scope. Then I bought a couple boxes of this stuff and shot sub MOA with it! This ammo is incredible, buy it while it cheap.

Phenomenal performance from Rem mod 700 fluted heavy SS barrel. Sub MOA performance at all ranges it was used. At 150 yds. and closer it commonly punches the same hole. Clover leaf performance at 200yds.

I shoot up to 800 yds on a weekly basis with a Remington Model 700 sps varmit model and I have shot 5 shot 1" groups at 400 yards using this type of round. This is the only kind of ammo I will buy and if you shoot long range I recomend that you try a couple boxes.

I have been using this ammo for many years (10+). I feed it through a Rem 700 Police, FNFAL (SAR-48), and a custom floated 16" Bull barrel AR-10. In each of these weapons it produces the best groups of any ammunition I have tried...and that is alot of bullets, weights and manufacturers. In the Rem 700, it can shoot 3/8"all day. In the AR-10, groups range between 3/8" and 5/8". The FN only does about 1.25", but this is excellent for this type of weapon. I have never had a misfire...ever...ever...ever. I often shoot 500+ yds and find the bullet to be extremely stable...holding moa or less accuracy in the 700 and AR-10 out to distance. My 3 weapons represent a range of barrel lengths from 26" to 16" and all have very different operating mechanisims. I find it amazing that they all prefer this ammo. Try it if you are looking for a great place to start working up an accuracy round. It does kill deer...but I use the accutip Remington round for this. The accuracy suffers a bit, but the knock down is significantly better with a hunting bullet.
