great for deer

I have shot Winchester, Remington, and Golden Bear. Wolf's hollow point is great. I have shot my last 3 deer and 2 Buffalo with great results. I live in an area that open sight shooting is the standard. These are dead on at 100 yards. I have shot over 200 rounds of this through my Yugo SKS and have never had a jamb or miss fire. This type of round is not very dirty. By the way the Buffalo were shot at 60 yards and the first shot dropped both. They were through and through shots on both, in fact the first buffalo had the bullet go through the chest and lodge in the opposite leg. Would I recomend shooting buffalo all the time with this? No. The buffalo were causing harm to people and property and had to be put down. This type of round is great on deer and stops them dead in their tracks. I would hate to see what it would do to my local Coyotes.

Well, I have been getting this ammo for a long time to shoot in my Norinco SKS. I have shot around 2000 rounds with not a single jam or misfire. This ammo is good for practice and I have shot deer and groundhogs with it and it performed well. I also target shoot alot and this ammo holds up very good out to around 300 yards. The only this I don't like about this ammo is that its very very dirty. Thank You CheaperThanDirt.com Also I have learned that when purchasing from CTD if you will buy only one item in bulk the shipping charges are not bad and does not go up much, but you can buy 2 different items and the shipping charges double. Happy Shooting.

Bought in bulk a while back both the SP and HP from Wolf. As mentioned in a previous post, I had occasional issues with the HP as well feeding. It just seemed to catch when feeding and jam up. But as the other individual did, I just put it back in again and it feed through fine the second time. At the price they are, for just plinking it is still a great deal. However, if it is for more than plinking where a jam could cause any serious issues I recommend the SP over the HP. As long as you properly maintain your weapon, you shouldn't have any problems using this ammo, I buy it again and again for both my SKS and AK.

I have been shooting this ammo for about a year.It has cycled through two SKS's both norinco & yugo, a romanian ak, and a mini 30 with no problems.a few jams in the mini 30 but i attribute that to the inability to find a decent mag for that weapon.very hard to beat for the money.

I have a Yugoslavian M70 Ak-47, I always run Wolf ammo through this thing. I've never had a problem with misfires. When i pay for 20 rounds, i get to shoot 20 everytime. The ammo does seem to be slightly dirty over that of some other more expensive brands, but cleaning it is no problem. I can achieve 2 MOA @ 100 yards which i consider pretty good for an AK, but the Yugo M70 is one of the better ones. The enemy or game animal is not going to know the difference between a center shot or 2 inchs off center of a major organ, i would ask one of them, but this ammo seems to kill with one shot everytime so i can't. So overall the Pro's are accurate, cheap, powerful, and Con's are little bit dirty, but im not a clean freak so it's not a Con to me.

I have only had 1 round bad on me because it fell into some water. other than that the 1000+ rounds I have shot through my Wasr-10 havent caused me any problems. Price is way up now though. I would have been able to get 2000 rounds for $230. CheaperthanDirt is the cheapest place that i have seen to get this ammo.

I have used Wolf ammo for years and for AK/SKS rifles it is OK ammo. It ris dirty ammo and requires more effort in cleaning. I have experenced at least 1 to 2 misfires per box (I just put it back in the mag and it normally fires the 2nd time around (hard primiers). For bulk storage or pracitce plinking it is OK but for serious shooting I recomind S&B it is all brass, reloadable and comes in FMJ and soft point rounds. ItI have never had a misfire, it is much cleaner burning and for me shoots tighter groups.

I have used the HP and the Soft Point ammo for the last 2 years. Shot around 2000 rounds total. I hunt with a mimi 30 and shoot tactical rifle matches with a Norico AK47. I had 1 failer to fire from my Mini 30. Other than that the ammo is great. Its as acurate as I need out to 200 yards. I have killed multiple hogs from 75 pounds to 210 pounds at ranges from 15 yards to 120 yards, all 1 shot stops. .............head shots. Value for money 10 out of 10!.

As one of the writers above said, you have to use the Ruger factory Mags to shoot this ammo in a mini 30. I have had no problems with misfires. I have 10,20, and 30 round mags for my mini 30 and this ammo won't feed after the first shot with any of the extra cap mags. It's not the Ruger, it's brand new. I also have a chinese Norinco SKS and this ammo jams in those extra cap mags too. Works great with the ten round internal mag. I'll stick to the Remington ammo for the Ruger. Too bad it won't work in the Ruger extra cap mags, cause it's cheap, and half the fun of cheap ammo is the fun emptying a 30 rounder.

This is the best buy for the money. I bought a 1000 rnds. for hunting and home defense. I killed a coyote at about 75 yards and one shot brought him down. I am very pleased with this ammo. I have had no problems with shooting it in my Yugo SKS or my AK-47. The shot on the coyote was made with the SKS. You can not beat this ammo for the price.Buy some before the price goes up. Wolf ammo is probably the best 7.62 for the price you pay. All Russian ammo works perfectly in all Russian and its varient rifles. Some might have problems with the ruger minis but thats because russian ammo is designed for russian weapons. The only other ammo that is better than wolf at a better price would be the soviet ammo or the yugo or romanian hotshot, even bulgarian. But these are rare. Wolf is based on the same recipe and factory setting as soviet factory type. My conclusion being if you have an ak or sks this ammo is perfect. If this ammo doesnt work well in you ak or sks then you got a rare bad batch or your rifle sucks because you dont clean it. -Mike G

Excellent rounds! The batch I got had a laquer coating which gummed up my receiver... but no to much a quick cloth wipe couldnt fix. CTD has a very good price. Ive seen these rounds go for 3.99 a box at a lot of other sites and 2.99 a box in catalogues. But usually gun shops and shows sell if for about 6.99 a box so CTD has an alright price. As for the complaints about ruger minis. Russian ammunition works the best for russian type clone weapons. If you ruger mini has problems by winchester or remmington 7.62 The only other ammunition that is better around the same price is Romainian Hot shot military grade. But of course you can only buy 100+ at a time. Russian hollow and soft point seem to be of equale to wolf in fact they are from the same clearing house as wolf. Be aware old ammunition has a tendacey to misfire so if you buy bulk ammo make sure you check out the seal. As for my conclusion. Wolf is the best for the money you pay for it. It is made using the classic soviet recipes and put together by wolf's advanced clearing house factories.

I've put thousands of rounds of almost exclusively Wolf 122gr JHP through my AKs, and so far I've had 1 (one) spent casing fail to eject in one of my AKs. Thats a pretty good record! If wolf doesn't work in your gun, then maybe its your gun! The ammo is great!

I have used this ammuntions several times and my results have been hit of miss. The lastest batch I purchased will not fire three rounds in either Yugo SKS that I own with out jamming. The shells do not properly eject. I have tried the Wolf classic brand which cost a little less and never had a problem...go figure. In fact I can have a jam with the Wolf standard brand, have it jam and this swtich to the Classic brand and it fires with no jams...no problems. If anyone has an answer to this, I would love to hear it.

Out of all of the other sites I checked, and I checked them all. Don't even think about a sporting goods store unless you have money coming out your rear. Cheaper Than Dirt has the best prices and in stock items that I could find. Their selection of ammo is extensive and as Bob would say, THE PRICE IS RIGHT. The other sites I checked out had a very limited stock of WOLF AMMO for a 7.62x39 HP round, and even if they did carry it , it was out of stock and more expensive. Most sites didn't even carry a 10 round clip, (mandatory in California) but I did find it here and in stock, not only that it was a lot cheaper than anywhere else I looked. I can't say enough about them. Their service is great, the rep knew exactly what I needed and was very pleasent to talk too. Nothing like some of those other sales rep's with a pimple face, stick up their rear ends who couldn't find it with both hands, who think a gun case is the zipper on their pants. I highly recomend Cheaper Than dirt, even to my enimies, at least I would get a good fight lol. All in all, it was a pleasure doing business with them. I am old school prior service, expert shot. I know what I'm looking for and need, so does Cheaper Than Dirt. Highly recomended!!!!

I have shot several hundred rounds of this ammo from 50 to 75 yards. I find the ammo to be reliable and with-in this range very accruate. It worked with out a problem in my Yugo AK-47 and my SKS. It is the best ammo that I can find at this price. I have shot more expensive ammo but it was not worth the price of 10 bucks a box. I have reordered more of this wolf ammo and that is the best of reccomendations that I can give. Enjoy

Ive shot 4000 rounds of wolf through my sks, both hp and fmj, and only 1 miss fire! Even rapid firing! With only about 3 cleanings.Never had a jam or feeding problem and my shot groups were well within the kill zone at a 100 yards. Ive even tried the more expensive ammo and got the same results. If you are going for something over a 100 yards, what are you doing with an ak or sks anyway? This ammo is perfect for the sks or ak owners for fun or self defense. Very reliable and worth the cost. I bought 400 rounds of Brown Bear 125-grain Soft Point. I'm shooting the stuff out of an 18-inch barreled RPK. For the life of me, I can't get the rounds to group at 100 yards or even a closer 50 yards. I've scoped my shot and used iron sights. I've bagged and used a shooting sling. I've even removed my muzzle brake thinking it must be the muzzle brake. In comparison, I have an M1A that can group heavier .308 with rounds touching at 100 yards using basic iron sights and Wolf's Silver Bear. Now, that is ammo I can really vouch for! Anyone care to back me up on this Brown Bear 7.62x39? Refute my claim? Verify or tell me your story? How does the other Wolf ammo in 7.62x39 stand up with grouping at 100 yards?

Solid, Decent Ammo

I've fired in excess of 10,000 rounds of this ammo, in both FMJ and HP. While not having the best Standard velocity Deviation, it is reliable. I submit that most of the malfuctions described in this review section are a result of faulty magazines/weapons. While we have experienced a few failures to ignite (primer solidly crushed without firing) this is rare, and it can happen with domestic ammo as well. We have had the Mini-30 fail to feed this stuff occasionally, but with the factory Ruger magazine it is decent. AKs, and SKSs, in good condition with the proper magazine will feed this with exceptionally good reliability. One AK we used in long-term testing has fired over 7,000 rounds with no more than a handful of malfunctions, without ever cleaning any portion of the gas system (barrel bore and bolt only). A double stack magazine-type rifle that misfeeds every 2nd round is a dead giveaway for a bent feed lip on the magazine, and no fault of the ammo. An SKS with non-matching magazine is often unreliable. Of my 5 SKSs, the reliable ones have all matching numbers, and are as reliable as any self-loader on the market, using this ammo. I give it 4 bullets because it is well worth the excellent price.

This is solid, reliable ammo. I have a Yugo SKS that I use these cartidges in and I have had no malfunctions due to ammo. I get very poor accuracy shooting these cartridges (8" at 50yrds), but I think that it can be attributed mainly to the gun because it is a cheap $100 parts gun and no serial numbers match. I think that accuracy would be just fine in a gun in good condition. Best part is: CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP.

Never a misfire or jam, and its dirt cheap even with the price increases. I have heard the pros and cons of steel cased ammunition, and for me the jury is still out on the other calibres such as .223 and pistol ammo. But for the 7.62x39, there is no question that for the price, you can do absolutely no better!

My SKS's love this stuff. Never had a misfire or feed problems. I have used this and the older laquer stuff and both work great.
