This is the same ammo we used to qualify with our M-16A2's. Extremely accurate and can be trusted to fire.

I bought a can of this stuff a couple of weeks ago thinking that it was the good ole M855 ammo I was used to. It jammed every other round through a brand new Bushmaster M4 A3. I went over to Russian Wolf and Barnaul ammo and had NO problems from the same magazines (same day, same conditions, etc.). This Lake City 2001 ammo clearly was released from the bunkers because it could not pass QA testing. I bought some single-box 2003 LC ammo from cheaperthandirt.com and wonder if the problems will be repeated. I actually don't think they will. These cans were available during a war because THANK GOD, they WEREN'T sent to the troops. I will follow-up on the 20-rd boxes soon, and I'll try a different bandolier, but don't waste the $490 plus on this stuff. Each badly fed cartridge ended up crimped on the side. Light powder loads or questionable storage conditions? I'm an active duty Ordnance Major, and this is garbage ammo. No wonder the lot numbers were blotted out on the bandoliers and can! When rounds did fire, they fired as expected.

This ammo is as advertised. Like the other reviewer noted the tins are blank and are not marked M855 or anything else for that matter. Everything else is just like they describe. I popped the seal open to check the date stamp on the brass and it said LC 01 with the NATO cross. The ammo is packed in 7 bandoliers with 4 boxes each and each box containing 3 10 round stripper clips. This is just like it was issued to us when I was in the Army, with the tins being packed together in a wooden crate. If you have an AR style rifle this is one of the best rounds to use for reliabilty since it was designed specifially for the weapon. This is a very accurate, clean burning, reliable round when used in ARs. For hunting I'd suggest something heavier with a lead tip and at the current price (499.97 WOW) it is definitely not for plinking unless money is no object for you. 1st rate ammo but the price definitely hurts the wallet. This is what Milsurp is all about, it is just unfortunate there is currently an ammo shortage. Face it, the glory days of 200$/1000 are over and you aren't going to find any Milsurp as good as this anywhere else either. Unless you want to shoot some Indian or Bosnian crap shell out the $$$ and stock up while you still can.

Let me start by saying that this is some of the best ammo I have fired through my Bushmaster Modular Carbine XM-15 ES2 (16 inch fluted barrel with IZZY muzzle brake). I Purchased 4 tins in March, 2007. Product shipped quickly without any problems. Ammunition is actual surplus XM855 and tins are sealed as stated although they have no markings at all. Other than the "clean" tins, the ammunition is packaged as described: Each tin contains 7 bandoliers. Each bandolier contains one "Clip Strip Loader" and 4 boxes of 30 rounds. Each box of 30 is "open top" style and marked "5.56MM - BALL M855 - 10 RD CLIP" with 3 10 round "clip strips". The bandoliers are date stamped 02/05. The casings are head stamped "LC 05" with a NATO "Star" and the brass is in good condition. The rounds are loaded to NATO specs (not SAAMI) and are quite "hot". The tips are green as stated and the projectile contains a steel tip under the copper jacket. This ammo is very accurate and burns as clean as you could expect. These rounds will penetrate one full inch into case hardened zinc plated steel at 100 yards through my Bushmaster (by penetrating one inch INTO said steel, I am saying that the tip of the round CONSISTENTLY seats itself into the steel at a depth of one inch). I rated this ammo with 5 "bullets" because I am rating the product, not the price (which is certainly not cheaper than dirt). That being said, I will say that it is getting very difficult to find even "decent" 5.56 ammo at a great price. And this ammo is definitely better than "decent". If you have a need for high quality 5.56 ammo with exceptional penetrating characteristics, this ammo will meet or exceed your need. A little too pricey for plinking, but very nice to shoot. Dropping 400 bucks on a tin of ammo is a bit scary if you don't know what you're getting so I hope this helps y'all.
