I bought 10 boxes, unfortunately! If you want a bolt-action AR-15 or actually have a bolt-action, then use the dirty crap, but my Bushmaster 20" standard only cycled about 5 out of 30 rounds on average, and one of those failures to extract made the rifle un-firable, it literally welded into the chamber, and upon yanking on the charging handle hard enough, finally got the bolt open but the casing was still in the chamber! and I thought it was good to go, but no, went to load it again, and ended up having to put a cleaning rod down the barrel, and grab a hammer and hammer the casing out of the chamber!!! This is also a rifle that has gone over 500 rounds of remington and lake city ammo flawlessly, and the rounds that weren't cycling were only kicking the bolt back about half way, thats why they weren't ejecting, sure enough I chronoe'd them, and with a standard deviation of about 150 FPS, they were 2,350-2,500 FPS, so buy at your own risk..... and if you do, good luck!!!

I shoot approx 200-250 rounds of this each visit to the range. It is definitely dirtier than anything else i shoot but i've been told that's because the steel casing doesn't expand like brass etc etc. Other than a quick cleaning (or a quick blast with gun blast) i see no problems for plinking. I'm old school and use grease where the gun tells me it needs it (any shiny spots) and oil everything else and i don't have the problems so many others do on the range.

Not accurate out past a hundred yards, and extremely dirty. I should have known better than to buy .223 rounds for this price. Well after running thru several hundred rounds of much more expensive ammo. I thought I'd give the Wolf a try. Fired at least 250 rounds of orginal batch and other then a very fowl oder if functioned fine. Never a miss feed, as far as accuracy goes, let's just say it'd do the job! I have since found out the older Wolf ammo had a different water proof coating and this caused a lot of the FTF and stove pipes. Great ammo for a great price.

I shoot a lot of wolf ammo in my Bushmaster AR 15. It shoots fine and is loaded with the long powder rather than round powder which gives it a good burn ratio.I am quite pleased with its capability . However, because of the corrosion preventitive on the outside of the casing burning off in the chamber ,it will cause a residue buildup in the chamber and ,if not cleaned properly with a chamber brush, can cause a spent casing jam. Clean your weapon properly after every shooting session and the ammo will work fine.

I believe the chamber throat on a Ruger Compact M-77 is too short for this ammo. I could not close the bolt and there were rifling marks on the bullet after removing it. Caution using this in a bolt gun this condition may give excessive pressure or leave a bullet lodged in the barrel. I dont know what chamber is in the M-77 .223rem 5.56nato or Wildey. The chamber throat is obviously too short for Wolf 55gr HP.

I have purchased several boxes of this 55 grain HP Wolf ammo and it states it's brass jacketed. Well, I took a magnet and checked it - guess what - IT AIN'T!! The magnet stuck to the Hollow Point end of the projectile which tells me it does have steel in it and thus makes it steel jacket or so it appears. Many times I've run across these claims and found out later they were not what the said, but this ammo soes shoot great and I will continue to shoot it. but I will have to be careful if I get the chance to put steel on steel for this round will damage a steel target. Have a great shoot and just check the rounds to make sure you don't make a problem for yourself.

I have shot over 5000 rounds of wolf .223 ammo out of my CMMG AR15 at the range. Its dirty ammo, but an AR takes a crap where it eats dinner so dirty ammo will foul up even more, but even then I have had minimal problems. I have 1 magazine that wont feed the last two rounds (magazine problem), about 1 misfire out of every 750 or so rounds, and if I shoot 500 rounds (I usually go through 500 a trip to the range in this gun) I have a jam around the 500th round that requires me to break the gun down and pop the case out of the chamber. I then had a buddy put an extractor kit inside the bolt carrier and have not had the problem since. I should probably clean the gun after 250 rounds but meh, I enjoy unloading mag after mag after mag...cheaply! Very good ammo for the price. Would not use for home defense.

I have shot about 2000 rounds of this ammo and I have NEVER had a jam or malfunction. I have noticed that my rifle is dirtier after shooting this ammo than Remington of Federal, but I'm cleaning my rifle after each time anyway, so it doesn't really bother me. I have shot this out of both Bushmaster AR-15 and Rock River Arms M4 with 0 problems. For plinking or shooting at the range I would recommend it. They used to put a waxy cover on the shells, but I haven't notice that lately. For those that are having jamming problems, I might suggest you take a look at your cleaning process or double check your feed ramps for any burs, etc. I wouldn't use this for duty ammo, but for target and recreation shooting I'd highly recommend it.

The local indoor range requires the use of this ammo. i have never had a fail to feed/fire/eject anything using this. i have run approximately 400 rounds down my Rock River Arms AR-15 carbine. The only thing that sucks about this ammo is the red buildup you get on the extractor face. This is very unimportant because it comes off easily with Hoppes #9 or break-free CLP (powder solvents). i think the price is great and you definitely are getting more than your monies' worth @ this price. To all the guys claiming this ammo is no good, I KNOW you are mistaken. I have bought this ammo from the range, from this website, and several gun stores in the area. i have NEVER had a problem and I use several different mags. iI suggest you try using a decent brand of rifle (not a Bushmaster!) or at least keeping your rifle clean. After 200 rounds or so you should clean the rifle. also, if you are NOT going to use the rifle for an extended period after you shoot it, you should clean it. the Ar-15 is probably the easiest rifle EVER to take apart and clean. At the very least clean the barrel, bolt, and gas tube. I remove the extractor and the buffer spring and clean those areas thoroughly also. I usually clean it after 2 or 3 trips to the range (60 or so rounds per trip). Check out youtube.com if you are unfamiliar with the cleaning process. Field stripping videos are available there. You need no tools to field strip the entire bolt carrier group, just a bullet and some fingernails.

I also shoot a .280 Rem. and a .22 Hornet from the same Stock, Frame & Forend. All three digest any ammo I feed them, and trust me, they have never been hungry. I also agree, that if you are on the "hunt of your dreams" or need self defense, choose a better quality product, but again, you only need one shot. Bought a few boxes of .223 Wolf ammo to plink with recently, through the Ruger Ranch Rifle. Stuff worked just fine with the factory 5-round mag, but I encountered some problems with my 30-round aftermarket mags. One of the 30-rounders would perform just fine, no flaws, but two of 'em wouldn't allow the Wolf ammo into the mag- the bullets were a smidge too long. Of course, it's the aftermarket mag (which works just fine with every other brand I've shot through them); the factory five-rounder chowed through the Wolf without problems. Overall, I'da given the Wolf "five bullets" were it not for the size problem with my aftermarket mags. Considering the many positive reviews elsewhere in this listing, however- I'll buy Wolf again, and invest in better aftermarket mags. HARV

Could not get this ammo to work in my S&W MP-15. Effectively reduced my semi-auto to a bolt action rifle, had to clear and charge every round. I stopped trying to use up the ammo after it jammed my bolt forward and I could not clear the rifle in the field. I believe the steel casing and the heavy fouling left behind after firing each round led to the rifle not feeding properly. I've since used only brass ammo by another manufacturer and haven't had a malfunction since.

I have not bought any Wolf from CTD YET! I have, however, used Wolf in my Bushmaster AR, Glock 22, and my Chinese SKS. Wolf did use a Green case with some kind of lacquer on it. That was dirty and I had a few rounds stick in my AR. That was then, now with this new Gray case I have had no problems AT ALL! Yes you should clean your guns when you are done. That is responsible gun ownership. I recommend a higher quality ammunition if you plan, and you should, to use your gun for personal protection and/or home defense but using this stuff at the range is a smart choice. Also spend the money you save to get some quality mags not the cheep ones. They will last you longer and preform better so you can shoot more Wolf and trust that in the time of need you gun will not let you down due to a faulty mag. I had some cheep mags (to save money to buy the expensive ammo) they did not work.

All my weapons are military grade; hence, they will eat anything i feed them; like the were made too. Most problems are user error. Wolf ammo is a bit dirtier than others, but, look at the price difference. When i shoot, I clean my guns (ALWAYS) and it is part of the fun. I love the smell of gun cleaners & oils...and napalm. (In the A.M., P.M.) People are basically lazy and stupid. And always complain. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Wolf ammo......just user error!!!

I have shot several hundred rounds of Wolf through my DPMS and OA AR-15's with both 30 RD clips and 90 round drums. I have experienced few problems. BUT common sense tells use to keep our guns clean, oiled and ready for use at the drop of a hat. If not might-as-well carry a sharp stick!

So, i bought two boxes of wolf although everyone told me not to, and well they were right. I was shooting it through a Bushmaster M17s every round jammed... The gun was a single shot... tried different mags to see if that was it and it wasn't. I cleaned the gun again and tried it and it still jammed. I would not recommend buying this ammo for any semi-auto M4 or M17s. Might be good for a single shot rifle. Like everyone else says, spend more money and buy good ammo, the guns deserve it.

I’ve been shooting Wolf ammo (grey and green jackets) for the past 9 years without any problems. As several folks stated – most of the time jamming issues are due to magazines or the rifle being dirty in the first place. This is good budget ammo, even if the build-up residue is higher than in higher-priced rounds. This is good practice ammo for a gun range. As far as combat and home defense go, don’t be cheap and buy higher-end rounds.

Very dirty, my M4 is cleaned everytime I shoot it spotless and this ammo has been the dirtiest ammo yet, so If you buy this ammo make sure you to clean your gun ATLEAST every 500 rounds or it will start jamming, Just an FYI but like the other guys said "good budget ammo" as long as you have time to take off work and clean your guns! I understand why they call it dirty ammo now. The coating rubs right off and gets on your fingers. I imagine it deposits it while you fire it as well. If you are on a budget, then this is the best to get. If not, stick with brass.

I had to get another mag for the bushmaster. Rounds loaded flawlessly after using new mag. I guess Bushmaster mags don't want to work for this ammo. For being dirty I don't see it. I haven't had any build up. All rounds have fired no duds. Shoot straight.

The Wolf ammo and the Silver Bear are both dirty ammo but with both my Bushmasters M4 I have fired 1000rds of the Wolf and 2000rds of the Silver Bear and have not had any problems. Not 1 miss fire or jam. I compaired the patterns that I was shooting with Winchester ammo and lost just under 1/2" off my pattern @ 150yds and that was after shooting 200rds of Winchester ammo and 700rds of Silver Bear and 200rds of Wolf. I never stopped to clean anything. In one day we shot 2000rds of Wolf and 2000rds of Silver Bear non stop and still NO miss fires or jams. I wish American made ammo was cheaper but since it isn't these are working great for me. hope that helps. John

Some people are confusing this with the green laquered stuff. Apparently Wolf is sporting this, gray non-laquered and the green laquered (classic). I spent over 1,000 rounds at a 2 day AR training. I got some flak about shooting the cheap stuff but my rifle operated flawlessly with this Wolf. At 200 yards I was targeting better than most. At one point, the instructor noticed that this was not the messy laquer ammo and gave it the thumbs up. *As far at the "one shot rifle" guy, sounds like a magazine issue, not an ammo problem.

I bough 10 boxes for Bushmaster AR-15. Jammed EVERY SHOT! It turned the gun into single shot rifle. At first, I thought it might be the rifle, so I cleaned the gun and gas tube. It didn't change anything. I didn't read the reviews before i bought it. I just saw the overall rating. Glad most of the buyers had good results but, in my opinion, this is NOT GOOD FOR AR SHOOTERS.

My DPMS has eaten 500 rds. of this stuff w/o a failure of any type. 50 mtr groups of 3/4 inche. Not great but this isn't match ammo either. For the price you CANNOT beat it. It goes bang when you pull the trigger and hits where you aim. It's a little dirty but nothing horrid. This ammo is great for plinking or stock piling. If bad becomes worse.... a 6" group is better than having nothing to group with at all!!!!!

Bought this ammo to function test the AR's that I build. First 12 rounds worked well, but then the coating used on the cartridge started acting as a glue and bonded with the inside of the chamber so that the rounds would not eject. On some of the casings, the feed lip was torn off and I had to replace 5 extractors on 3 different carbines. I used up the rest of my stock on Ruger Mini 14's with only a few failures, and they worked like a charm on bolt actions (only 1 failure) but I would not recommend using on AR's.

I bought 1000 rounds of this for my Bushmaster and my friends Mini Ranch. Neither gun had one problem from any magazine. I myself have been using cheap surplus magazines in my AR and did not have one problem with a jam, stovepipe, or feed. I will definitely be buying more of this ammunition to go plinking with. The accuracy was not even that bad. I was consistently hitting orange clay throwing targets on a stand at 100 yards. Any misses that I did have were just because I was goofing around. The cleaning of my AR was not that bad either. After running 600 rounds of the Wolf and 300 rounds of Lake City through the gun I had no problem cleaning the chamber face, the bolt, or the gas tube. As someone who likes to shoot a lot for fun with friends I highly recommend it.

I have never had a misfire or jam yet.Me and my two brothers all have a mini-14 and about every two months, we go back in the pasture and just cut loose. I got 1000 rounds of this ammo simply because it was the cheapest on the market, I own a Ruger Mini 14 and an Armalite AR 15. Most of my friends and I all own either one of those or the semiautomatic AK 47, I have no knowledge of hunting with these rounds because my guns are all for the purpose of home defense, therefore I cannot tell you if this round will be great in hunting or very long shots. This round is great for any shot from 5-100 yards, and in every every gun i have shot it in, it has performed satisfactorily. Me and my friends usually practice with our semiautomatic assault rifles at public "free" shooting ranges and the targets are 25 or 100 yards, and we put up targets that are of a life size human from the waist up and shoot at it standing with no scope or rest to aid in accuracy. With that said, all of us can hit a human target in the head or upper chest about 97% of our shots. Essentially this round is perfect for those shooters with only one or two guns and very little money to spend on ammo, and those with a need for home defense, such as inner city young adults, old people with only a pension or social security as income, andothers who have an assault rifle but a small ammo budget. I recommend this to anyone who doesnt have the money to buy the same caliber ammo at 5 times the price.

I wanted to revie it for myself and I got it. Its a excellent ammo. The recoil on it isnt alot. I compared the ammo with my practice rounds (remington fmj 55grn) the results were nice, grouping is excellent for a off hand shot.

I purchased this product because of the very low price for kicking around in the field after squirrels, priarie dogs and other small pests. I knew it was not reloadable and thought it would be a dirty shooter as well. I was surprised to see how well this round actually worked in my semi-auto and it wasn't that dirty. The only draw back was the fact that it couldn't be reloaded but at this price why reload for varment rounds and plinking? Great value.
