This is a great round for home defense. Stock up, and up, and up, and buy a few more boxes just in case. Thanks CTD!

I am shooting sub 1" groups with this ammo out of a S&W M&P AR-15 with optics I just bought from Cheaper than Dirt and put on it. Zeroed it at 100 yards and ran about 200 rounds of this down the tube and it goes bang every time. Not even a challenge anymore to shoot the orange bull out of the Shoot-N-C targets at 100 yards anymore. This ammo will probably be all I ever buy for that rifle because it sells here almost a dollar cheaper than at my local gun store.

I read a rifle review about the Bushmaster Varmiter shortly after it came out. The reviewer claimed to be able to achieve a .25 in group at 100 yards using specialty ammo (40 grain moly coated hand loaded rounds). I was able to duplicate the same results, on a constant basis, using the Federal XM193 with my Bushmaster Varmiter. I have fired thousands of rounds XM193 with no misfires. Maybe it's not top shelf ammo in a colorful box, or recommended by your local SWAT team, but if I can hit ping pong balls at 150 yards I suppose it will do, and do nicely.

I"ll gladly use this ammo,as it's the same ammo our boys are using "over there". If "looks" are any indication of how well they'll go downrange than I'll have no problem with this case I just received. Checked the first 100 rnds. and yeah, they have a few dents and dings here and there and no their not pretty, but who gives a rats?..,they don't know any different. All of them are seated and no crimps, primers are flush, etc.,I can't wait to get to the range and I'm sure they'll perform...just like they are supposed to. I'm already planning on stocking up on more.

Great Ammo!!

I have used this ammo for my bushmaster carbon 15 pistol and at least fired about 600 rounds of this stuff and haven't had one jam!!!! I would definitely recommend this ammo for anyone that has a bushmaster ar 15 pistol.

Function flawlessly in my 2007 mini 14 for over 200 rounds out of a thousand pack. My mini likes to jam with cheap .223 ammo, not with these. The rounds never, never fail to eject. But I have yet to test their accuracy with a scope...

My Bushmaster loves this stuff. Shoots it all day long without a problem. I'd write more but I'm off to scrounge up enough money to buy another case before they change the price...

Good for the price

Out of 500 rounds fired between a Bushmaster Varminter, an XCR, and a SIG556, I had only one failure to fire (it worked on the second strike), and one underpowered round which caused a failure to fully extract. I know it was the ammo because none of these weapons have had a failure otherwise.

So Far so good

Mini 14 compatibility

Great ammo. There have been some rumbling on line concerning the compatibility of this and other 5.56 ammo with Ruger Mini 14s. So I called the Product Service department in Newport, NH and was told that all Mini 14s are chambered in 5.56 ( even though .223 is stamped on the receiver ) and that XM and X193 mil spec ammo is just fine. I was told by them it should be avoided in the Ruger Target Rifle.

This is GREAT ammo. I've shot several hundred rounds without any trouble. I have three rifles that shoot .223 or 5.56. My Sig 556 will eat anything I'll put through it. I have a Daewoo DR-200, the PC version of the S. Koren K-1 or K-2 and a CZ mini mauser. My Sig and CZ will nail what ever the cross hairs are fixed on at 100 meters. But, my Daewoo does not like the heaver rounds and will do well with a 6 inch group on 55 grain rounds. Now for the 5.56 vs the .223 debate. 5.56 is metric, or NATO, and the .223 is the ASE messure. The 5.56 NATO is military spec and is a little hotter than the standard .223. If I have a .223 rifle that can't handle the 5.56 NATO, I'll be seling that rifle.

I've put about 600 rounds of this stuff through my RRA midlength AR. I'ts as accurate as any 55 grain FMJ that i've used and burns clean. Hard to beat at this price.

Shot a few thousands of those rounds. Extremely accurate and clean ammo. Cycled perfectly fine in my Kel-Tech, Bushmaster and Mini 14 (I clean and oil my rifles after every shooting session).

Stuff won't fit into my Galil's magazine, I'm able to fit three round (including one in the chamber) and it fires alright. Won't cycle properly in my Bushmaster. I guess if you into making your rifle a singleshot, knock yourself out.

5.56mm and .223 not necessarily interchangable

It depends on the rifle, but contrary to popular opinion and CTD's description of this round, 5.56 and .223 are not identical rounds. Most 5.56 chambers will accept .223 without issue, but not all .223 chambers are built to function with 5.56 milspec loads. 5.56 milspec (which this Lake City stuff is) is loaded to a higher pressure and has a longer "leade" than a .223. Which may explain why some see primer blowback or other malfunctions. Be sure your weapon is rated for 5.56 before using it! Check Wikipedia

This has proven to be a very reliable round for my bushmaster and stag arms AR15s. much cleaner than the cheaper stuff, no jaming or duds so far (600+). the price seems to be good for a lake city round. I've paid more and got less.

I have fired over 1000 rounds of this ammo without so much as one hiccup. The XM193 was manufactured for the military at NATO specs but the contract was canceled with Federal. It is more accurate than most other military surplus and burns cleaner also. Beware! The XM193 is loaded to military specs and is not safe to fire in a rifle chambered only for the .223 sporting cartridge. The chamber pressures are too high for a sporter and you can damage your rifle, or worse, yourself!

I took these out and shot 40 rounds through my bushmaster AR-15 with a 22" bull barrel 1:9 twist. The accuracy was alright not as good as Horandy VMax .223 but better than Rem. Umc .223. the thing that concerned me was 5 out of 40 rounds the primer blew out the back of the bass when fired. the primers jammed my gun up and i had to remove the primers from it because they fell out into the guts of my gun.

Well this ammo is good, haven't "chronoed" them, but they no longer have the NATO stamp on the case and probably aren't NATO spec without that stamp, no big deal, but if U want NATO-spec ammo I don't think this is anymore.....
