5.0 Rating Ak Bayonet - 10/12/2008AK-47 East German Bayonet Complete Includes Sheath and Frog Used5.0000

I got this for my birthday, and was very pleased with the initial impression that I got. It wasn't till the next day that I reallt realized how nice a knife this was. I went out side to see how well it could cut fence wire, and the cutter couldn't have done a better job. It cut clean through without giving me any grief. Also, since it was a little dull I took a stone to the blade, and in a couple of minutes had a fair edge, although its very obvious that this knife will need some serious time to get it razor sharp. The leather frog, well it looks used, it has the appearance of leather that has spent many hours outside, whish isn't a bad thing. Really the only complaint I have with the knife is that there is a little rust on the handgaurd, which came off in about 2 minutes with steel wool.

The bayonets may be produced in Romania for E. Germany and they do fit an AK with a bayonet lug. The "bayonet lug" is the problem--most of the bayonet lugs are lacking the rail to engage the bottom recess in the bayonet. From the muzzle end the bayonet lug should look like an upside down T, and most that I have seen look like squares with no bottom side extensions: They are for decoration on the guns and are nonfunctional to support a bayonet. Look at where the bayonet where attaches to the lug--it looks like an upside down T--the lug on the rifle should look the same. If it doesn't, the bayonet will fall off every time. The bayonet is an excellent product and will fit the proper lug.

This bayonet is not East German, It is Romanian. It's a decent bayonet in good condition. Some Romanian imported rifles, such as the SAR, have had their bayonet lug rails ground so that no bayonet will properly stay mounted. This was because of the now expired assault weapons ban. Current WASR rifles have bayonet lugs removed entirely. These bayonets do not make very good utility knives as they are very difficult to sharpen and do not hold a good edge. They do make decent bayonets and are adequate for minor digging such as in gardening. For bayonet collectors, these bayonets make a nice representative example as they have original markings and serial numbers, all parts including the leather mounting frog, and are in good condition.
5.0 Rating Better than it looks - 4/27/2008AK-47 East German Bayonet Complete Includes Sheath and Frog Used5.0000

I purchased this as a backup to my US bayonet as a tool in soil evaluation work in trenches. It's exceeded my expectations; the blade sharpens pretty easily, and hones very sharply, unlike other bayonets that aren't known for their blade sharpness. It isn't pretty, but I had the suspicion that it's unspectacular looks belied its utility. I'm inclined to think that it could serve as an excellent commando knife. An unbeatable value.

I bought one for my Romanian AK and cannot seem to get it to stay on. If you shake it, or move it or even look at it wrong, it falls off. It is a nice knife and works well to just leave it on for display, but otherwise it is useless.
