unworkable, damaging, 11/24/2006 |

| I bought one of these barrels for turkey hunting last Spring. In testing 3 inch loads, I found that about half the time the gun wouldn't go fully into battery. Thinking that perhaps the chamber was a bit out of spec, I took the gun to my gunsmith. He found that the problem was that the gas ring on the bottom of the barrel was undersized and that the barrel was not repairable. He showed me where metal had been sheared away by the gas piston slamming forward into the undersized ring, causing damage as well to the gas piston! I contacted Remington directly, and they said to send the barrel back to CTD for a refund (how does that help my damaged 11-87?). Foolishly, I waited more than a month before testing the barrel on my gun, and I LOST the CTD receipt in the interim - my stupidity, my loss. |
