i've used these shells for rattlesnakes and rats...in both a marlin .22 rifle and walther p22 pistol it took about 8 shots to kill a 6ft diamond back, but i wasn't in an area where i would have been able to use a 12 ga and birdshot (so i grabbed the .22 rifle and loaded these shells) it made quick work of the snake at 10ft away i also used these in my p22 to take out some garage rats...one shot, one kill at @ 20ft and no damage to anything in the garage...the shot barely penetrates lumber and kept a good shot pattern with more than enough power to take out mice/rats

Good at what it's for

Know your equipment! Penetration of solid objects? Cycling auto loaders? Who in their right mind thinks #12 shot propelled by a primer is going to do any of that?! This is very good at what it does; turn your .22 pistol or rifle into a shotgun. Shotguns are by definition short range weapons which inflict multiple small wounds rather than relying on hydrostatic shock. The intended targets for this ammunition are vermin size- way smaller than varmints, miniscule compared to an adult human. I wonder what happened that required 5 rounds & 2 at point blank range to kill a mouse, since it's ordinarily ideal for that. I eliminate copperheads, cottonmouths, scorpions & neutra rats with this round from a bolt action rifle at 5-10 yards & it does well. I usually double tap, since keeping my distance from an angry venomous snake is just common sense & this stuff is cheap enough that I don't mind expending a "just to be sure" shot. The plastic tip is tender so you have to take reasonable care when cycling the action.

does what it was designed for

Is meant to be fired from handguns, against small pest [bird & rodent & snake], up to a MAXIMUM of 15 feet. Also fun on paper. Will NOT cycle semi-automatic weapons so they must be cycled manually. In rifles the Plastic capsule may become lodged in the barrel.

Right on "Rancher". There for a minute I thought I was the only one who used a revolver for these shells. I have killed dozens of copperheads with this stuff around the farm. I keep a pistol on my tractor loaded with this ammo to kill snakes when I'm cutting hay. FYI- If you really want to have fun with this ammo shoot wasps and carpenter bees in flight. I typically shoot from 3 to 10 feet away with a 3" barrel and get about a 50% kill rate. The CCI are more expensive than other brands but contain more shot (about 150 pellets/shell as compared to about 100 pellets/shell when you shoot the crimped brass). As always make sure what's behind the insect before you fire.

Good For Snakes

I have used shot shells for over 50 years, and unless you want to lug around a shovel to kill snakes these are great. Only .22 magnum shot is better, but also more expensive. I don't really like getting close enough to rattlers for a shovel kill, so I have two revolvers always loaded with shot--one in my ranchhouse and one with me. Anyone who understands how self loading weapons work will know why you must use a revolver for shot shells.

Ehhh. not bad

Well, you can't really expect much from a .22 shotshell. These shotshells do not cycle well in semi-autos, but work great in a bolt action. I shot a clay disc on the ground within 3-4 yards and it barely made little dents on the surface. I think it took about 6 shots until it cracked. But the grouping was impressive. It's a little expensive for the weak performance. But they are fun to shoot.

pretty crappy :/

all i shoot are .22's cuz i just cant afford the bigger shells, but one day i had a little spare change and wanted to try these out, i regret buying them and would never buy them again, i shot an old hubcap at about 40 feet, and most of the tiny pellets only made little dints, only a few went through the hubcap

fun.....

Fun but useless a small house mouse required 5 shots 2 at point blank range

pest control

i shoot these using a single shot remington rifle for pest control. they work well in this weapon. you have to get close, like within 15 yards to get effective results. to dispatch snakes about 10 yards requiring multible rounds. these shells are better used for training young shooters. other than than a 'wounding' shot, they are not for any game bird or animal. use them with care and have some fun because that is what they are for.

A useful novelty

I have shot these in my stock 10/22 carbine. I had absolutely no feeding problems from ruger factory mags. However, these will NOT cycle the action. Patterning was actually a nice, even 50/50 above and below point of aim. Penetration with the tiny load of #12 shot was, of course, insufficient for anything other than pest control. I don't think it would be an effective self defense round in any situation. I had some fun using them against hand-tossed clays. If your clays don't break when they hit the ground, you can find them peppered with tiny holes. The tiny shot seems not to crack the clays, but merely punch through them. For pest control, I think this would be just the ticket. For anything else, just a novelty.

I took my friend to the shooting range the other day and shot these babies off They had very good patterns up to 30ft. You could kill a crow with these any day! I like them because they are very silent. From 20ft I was able to pepper a wall. Nobody would think this but I think this is a perfect self defence load.

I shot these out of my NAA mini-revolver. So much fun! I have a "bad guy" target (you know, dude who looks like he's ready to stomp a mud hole in me) and when I was done with him, he was in shreds! I had no problems with jams at all. In fact, out of all the .22LR ammo I have tried, this is by far my favorite.

deadly on rats

I shoot these through an Anschutz, bolt action, smoothbore. It has a 24 inch barrel, the minimum length for a shotgun here in U.K. and puts about 85% of the shot into a 6 inch circle at 20 foot. At this range it is deadly on the rats around the barns. CCI do state that it is not designed to cycle semi autos or autos.

not good for rifles

I shot this ammo in my marlin model 60 and it sucked big time. Would not cycle at all, it would jam up and you would have to pull the brass out by hand the blue top would break in the feeding tube and make a mess and you would have shot all in the receiver so then they would set right and tight so you would have clean up the receiver ever 10 rounds of so. now if you shot this in a handgun great ammo.

very good

i shoot these bad boys out of my old sawed off marlin 80e, once in a wile you get one stuck in the chamber after you shot it and then hopefully you have a screwdriver or knife because you have to pry the old shell out, but i find this a minor inconvience.also i dont think it makes any differnce but the blue plastic top looks cool. p.s. the sawed off barel gives you a nice spread up to 20 ft.
