| I actually have the .17 mach II graphite barrel for the rugar 10/22 reciever and was impressed with the accuracy, but noticed a bit of blowback in my face and a bulge in the barrel after a few hundred rounds of firing. I emailed about this problem and the answer I got from magnum was the bulge was caused by an obstruction in the barrel and if the accuracy is fine, then the barrel is fine. And I have the option of buying a new barrel at a reduced cost.
I keep my firearms clean and obstruction free for the record.
What is happening here is a seperation in the liner of the barrel that allows gas to escape under the graphite and that is what causes the bulge.. not an obstruction in this case.
I will elect to purchace one of the all steel barrels next time. There are some really nice ones on another page here. |

| I recently purchased this barrel for my Ruger 10/22 hoping to get some better distance and accuracy out of it. In the instructions it explained the procedures to install the barrel correctly, this was not a problem. However, no where did it say that you would have to convert your entire firing mechanism to be able to shoot the .17 HMR bullets through your new barrel. The discription of the barrel even sais it is for a 10/22 but this is completely incorrect. I gave a 2 bullet rating just because it is indead a nice barrel and plan on buying a .17 HMR just so I can sport it. |
